Feb. 24, 1960 – Disney’s “Kidnapped” starring Peter Finch and Peter O’Toole was released.
Feb. 24, 1963 – The TV series Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color aired part-2 of “Banner in the Sky.”
Feb. 24, 1969 – Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day” was nominated for an Academy Award.
Feb. 24, 1975 – Disney’s “Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too” was nominated for an Academy Award.
Feb. 24, 1985 – The “Disney Clothiers” shop opened in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Feb. 24, 1993 – It was a big night for Beauty and the Beast at the 35th Grammy Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium. (Best Pop Performances By a Duo or Group With Vocals went to “Beauty and the Beast,” performed by Celine Dion and Peabe Bryson. Best Pop Instrumental Performance was awarded to “Beauty and the Beast,” Richard Kaufman conducting Nurenberg Symphony Orchestra. Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture for Television was given to composer Alan Menken for “Beauty and the Beast.” Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or for Television was awarded to “Beauty and the Beast,” Written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.)
Feb. 24, 1996 – “The Spirit of Pocahontas” Stage show closed at Disney-MGM Studios at WDW.
Feb. 24, 1999 – Disney’s “The Lion King” won Best Musical Show Album at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards.
Feb. 24, 2001 – The Disney animated series House of Mouse aired the episode “Rent Day,” and the 6th episode of “Timon and Pumbaa.”
Feb. 24, 2003 – It was reported that baggage searches at WDW parks (which began after Sept. 11, 2001) may continue for a long time. Disney has begun building a permanent bag check area at the Magic Kingdom to take the place of folding tables now being used.
