Are AP holders eligible for Free Dining?

We are considering purchasing an AP this year. We were thinking of going to WDW this summer, next winter, and the week before it expires next summer. (Yes the AP almost forces you to go more often, and that can't be bad) My question is: If we have the park passes already, can we get free dining by just booking a room during that promotional period? (If it becomes available again?)

We're passholders and we've done free dining for several years.

Free Dining requires you buy a package (room and tickets). Up until this year, we could get a package with only a 1 day ticket for everyone in our party. Now they require a minimum 2-day ticket. We still used our AP for our trip and would apply the single (and now 2-day) ticket towards an AP renewal.

So, yes, annual passholders are eligible for free dining, but not because they are annual passholders.
They have to purchase a package just like everyone else.
