I just got my DVC annual dues statement and it came as a bit of a shock!

We have 270 points at the Wildserness Lodge and 270 at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (and I know this is quite a lot of points BUT...) and the bill was $2770.55.

The price seems to be rising incredibly fast. Does anyone know whether DVC has published anything to justify recent rate hikes upwards or can explain this? If this continues I may regrettably have to rethink about teh VFM of our membeship (since 2002):number1:

Ours was a little less than $1000 for 200 points at OKW. I think it was closer to $950-960 last year. I didn't give it a thought (becasue- this year- my inlaws bought half of our points and therefore they paid half of the dues and made it easier to stomach), but now I'm going to look into it.

Just looked at my account on dvc website...paid $973 last year and $993 this year. That's still a fairly sizable increase...if it keeps going $20/year...yikes. That's 10 cents a point.

Someone in another thread that AKL still isn't sold out, I'm wondering if those that bought in aren't paying for the empty rooms somehow.

Wilderness Lodge is one of the smallest properties, so it makes sense that dues will go up more than others. Less owners to spread the wealth.

The notice about rate increases should have come in the notice with your bill.

We have 375 points at HHI and our dues were $2100 this year.

Per point you're paying about $5.13. We're paying about $5.60. It's about average. you just have a lot of points ; )

EDIT:

I found this chart on another website. It might be helpful for you.

2010 Annual Dues (per point)

VGC = $3.94 ($3.9388)
BLT = $3.78 ($3.7756)
AKV = $4.95 ($4.9496)
SSR = $4.46 ($4.4611)
BCV = $5.15 ($5.1491)
BWV = $5.36 ($5.3601)
VWL = $5.20 ($5.1993)
OKW = $4.87 ($4.8733)
HHI = $5.57 ($5.5675)
VB = $6.61 ($6.6091)

2011 Annual Dues (per point)

AKO = $4.31 ($4.3071) Aulani at Ko Olina
VGC = $4.07 ($4.0701)
BLT = $3.89 ($3.8943)
AKV = $5.01 ($5.0143)
SSR = $4.51 ($4.5123)
BCV = $5.28 ($5.2751)
BWV = $5.46 ($5.4552)
VWL = $5.34 ($5.3430)
OKW = $4.98 ($4.9825)
HHI = $5.68 ($5.6758)
VB = $6.78 ($6.7760)

So last year you paid $1336.50 for AKL and $1404 for VWL for a total of $2740.50. You paid $2770.55 this year. The difference is $30.05. It's a little bit more, but I wouldn't call it massive.

Insurance rates go up. Maintenance costs go up. Cost of operations go up. Disney passes those costs on to us. Think about it - If you were paying for rooms OOP, you'd pay a little more each year for rooms that cost you less last year.

Coffee just jumped $1 a bag, which for me is at least $52 a year. My DVC dues went up about $10 a year. I'm a lot more concerned about the coffee!

Thanks for this data. I must admit that my memory of the dues must be flaky! :-) Its actually not so much more than a 1% increase from your figures so I was clearly very wrong! I think I was just shocked as we have added points a couple of times over the past 9 years and I still remember when we ony had to pay $1000 annual dues!

I withdraw my GRUMPY comment! LOL!:mickey:

Thanks for the information!:thumbsup:

That is bad...but you don't have to buy coffee, while you DO have to pay that annual dues bill every January (right after Christmas).

That is true, but you can pass on the coffee anyday, while you can't just decide to pass on your annual dues...you'd have to sell your DVC.

I know what you're saying, but I always say... If you HAVE to ask how much, you can't afford it.

As much as it appears the DVC sell has changed over the years, nobody twisted anyone's arm into buying into DVC. Due increases should be expected.

As with something like a timeshare/condo, etc. You really need to look into the financials of the copany you're buying from. Mostly applies to condo associations, but I think looking at the track record for a timeshare should give you an idea of where things are going.

The annual dues at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge went up 2.8% and the Animal Kingdom Villas went up a miniscule 1.3%. This doesn't seem high at all.

I have 1,250 points - you should see my annual dues bill.

The increase was about typical. Does anyone else use a Disney visa to pay their dues? We only have 100 points at BCV, so ours isn't bad. We use our visa for everything so our dues are completely paid, and we usually have about $200 left over for park visits, etc. But again, we put EVERYTHING on the card, including a bunch of bills automatically every month.

Coffee is NOT a luxury...just ask those who share space with me on the mornings that I don't have any. :mickey:
