Dec. 12, 1927 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short “Empty Socks” was released. This was the first Disney “Christmas” themed short.
Dec. 12, 1931 – The United Artists feature-length documentary “Around the World in 80 Minutes with Douglas Fairbanks” was released. Mostly comprised of home movies taken by film star Douglas Fairbanks Sr. during a trip to the Orient, it also included an animated sequence by Disney. A special cartoon scene created just for the Fairbanks film featured a dancing Mickey Mouse.
Dec. 12, 1937 – Disney’s Silly Symphony newspaper featured the first glimpse of the work put into “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
Dec. 12, 1941 – Disney’s animated commercial “Seven Wise Dwarfs” was released.
Dec. 12, 1946 – Walt and Lillian Disney arrived in N.Y. aboard the ocean liner Queen Elizabeth. They have been in England and Ireland for the last few weeks.
Dec. 12, 1949 – Actor Bill Nighy – Davy Jones in the Disney Feature “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” was born in Surrey, England.
Dec. 12, 1950 – Actress/singer Darleen Carr, the voice of Shanti in Disney’s 1967 “The Jungle Book,” was born in Chicago, Il. (She also dubbed the children’s singing voices for the 1965 classic Sound of Music.
Dec. 12, 1952 – Disney’s Goofy short “How to be a Detective” was released.
Dec. 12, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Fun With Music Day” on ABC-TV.
Dec. 12, 1956 – The Disneyland TV series aired “Pluto’s Day.”
