Sept. 19, 1927 – Disney’s 2nd Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon “Oh, Teacher” was released.
Sept. 19, 1928 – Actor Adam West, the voice of Ace in the 2005 animated feature “Chicken Little,” was born in Walla Walla, Wa. (Adam was best known as TV’s Batman.)
Sept. 19, 1948 – Actor Jeremy Irons, the voice of the narrator for Spaceship Earth in Epcot at WDW, was born in Cowes (Isle of Wight), England.
Sept. 19, 1949 – Recording began for Disney’s upcoming animated feature “Cinderella.”
Sept. 19, 1949 – Actor Ernie Sabella was born in Westchester, N.Y. He was the voice of Pumba for Disney’s “The Lion King” and multiple sequels and spinoffs. Sabella also appeared in episodes of “That’s So Raven” as Mr. Petrachelli and as himself on the 1996 broadcast of “Walt Disney World Very Merry Christmas Parade.”
Sept. 19, 1952 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “Pluto’s Party” was released.
Sept. 19, 1956 – The Disney TV show aired “The Great Cat Family.”
Sept. 19, 1959 – Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev arrived in Los Angeles, Ca. during his 11-day U.S. visit. He is suppose to tour Los Angeles housing projects, while his wife and children visit Disneyland. Instead he wishes to accompany them to Disneyland, but is turned down when security officials cannot guarantee his safety. The disgruntled Premier and his family attended a luncheon at Twenieth-Century Fox Studios instead.
Sept. 19, 1964 – Actress Kim Richards was born in Mineola, N.Y. One of the most popular child actresses of her era, Richard’s appeared in such Disney live-action films as “The Wiz Kid and the Mystery at Riverton,” “Escape to Witch Mountain,” “No Deposit, No Return,” and “Return to Witch Mountain.”
Sept. 19, 1966 – Walt Disney gave what would be his last press conference. He spoke about the development of the Mineral King Ski Resort in southern California. It would feature skiing, an alpine village, skating rink, hotels, dormitories for young people, and restaurants. (Disney’s plans would quickly be put to a stop when critics and environmentalists feel the untouched land would be desecrated. Congress would eventually vote to turn Mineral King into part of Sequoia National Park.
