Something New To Do!....

Ok, we've been doing WDW for several years now with our 2 DS' who are now 11 & 8 and are looking to head down again in early Nov. Here's my query; I'm looking for suggestions for something "new" to try / ride / eat / experience at the World. We've covered most of the expected rides, have not tried all the shows and definately have only experienced a fraction of the many eats to be had. And I'm sure there's a bunch of other cool under-the-radar stuff to do (KIm Possible at Epcot for example-never tried).

Anyway, anything unique or unusual, a bit off the beaten path, a hidden food find let me know....I'm takin' notes!! :thumbsup:

The school bread at Norway is great and I've heard the Carrot cake cookie ar the Wroter's stop at HS is grea though I've never tried it. Try a LapuLapu at the Poly and watch the fireworks from the beach. The kids can play in the sand and hammocks while you relax. :marg:

I'll give you a few suggestions for Epcot. You already mentioned Kim Possible, which I highly recommend. Your kids are at the perfect age. Also, go to Innoventions and do Sum of All Thrills and Storm Struck. Both fun, out of the ordinary attractions kids like.

Depending on interest, a Behind the Seeds Tour might be fun.

New to try in dining, if you haven't yet:

Sanaa- a really good time, good food. You can watch the animals while you eat. Zebra, giraffe, ostrich, and various birds and grazing buffalo-like animals I can't name. If you don't have super-picky eaters, I think there's something for everyone to enjoy. Exploring the AKL, also fun.

Kouzzina- Loved the food, with the exception of the Greek-style lasagna, which was just too rich and big a dish. But good in the smaller version, in the trio. Little-known secret: if you don't like one of the dishes in the trio, you can substitute by getting two or even three of the others. Really fun to try Kat Cora's creations, a great new Boardwalk addition.

Via Napoli- Another one new to me that gets a thumbs up. Delicious pizza at WDW! Yay! Plus the pizza ovens are very cool.

New Experiences, maybe try a tour, or try riding some of your favorite outdoor rides at night vs day to see if there's a difference in experience. Make it a point to try some of the attractions you've avoided. We tried American Idol Experience for the first time last trip and had a good time. If you haven't rented watercrafts and zoomed across one of the WDW lagoons, give it a shot. A great way to spend an afternoon. Or maybe try the horseback riding at Fort Wilderness, or a fishing excursion.

This past summer we went to The Magic of Disney Animation where we able to create our own Disney character art at the Animation Academy, under the guidance of a Disney artist. It was so much fun we got to draw Woody! Plus it is a free souvenir of your drawing to take home. My DS 20 & DD 9 LOVED IT!

Have you eaten at Sci-Fi Dine In? We love it there, especially my DD who went for the first time at 13 YO and wants to eat there every trip. :thumbsup:

Has your family done the water parks? They are always a highlight with my nieces and nephews of the same age range...

I also second the Hidden Mickey hunt - can be done anywhere.

We really like the 50s Prime Time Cafe - ask for a server that will tease the kids.

Not sure which shows you've done, but Lion King is a great show.

And don't miss the parade in Animal Kingdom either. We always watch from the Dawa Bar, so the adults can have a fun beverage while we watch the parade.

As one poster said, doing something opposite. We usually go to Epcot after 4 pm. A couple of trips ago we started doing one morning at Epcot, each trip. Test Track in the daylight is different. Possibly if you always do some rides (Magic Kingdom comes to mind) in the daytime, switch around.

Have your boys had haircuts at the Harmony Barbershop in MK? Once our grandkids went there, it was a must do every time.

Also at MK, have you seen Philharmagic? We tried for several trips to work it in and finally did that this last trip. What a fun show. It's on our must do list now.

Have you done many character meals? We really enjoy the 1900 Park Fare supper, and yes, Cinderella and Prince Charming are there but the highlights have to be the Tremaines. Such hoots! They're a nice counterpoint to all the princess stuff.

Another fun thing is watching the MK fireworks from the boat dock at the Poly while eating a Mickey head ice cream. And if the timing is right, watching the Electric Boat Parade, too.

We enjoyed a dinner at Wolfgang Pucks Cafe for the first time on our last trip....

Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream? Not my favorite, but definitely a fun memory!

Pick a Pearl in Japan - even if you don't participate, it is still very fun to watch - Also don't miss the candy lady in Japan. Great talent.

This is a fun thread!

I like the recommendation of trying the parks at different times than usual. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a completely different experience at night.

Like another poster said, do the animation thing. It is so fun to draw a Disney character. I had a friend who did that with her family then framed the pics in one frame. Very cool and you could see everyone's art!

Also at DHS on the streets of America look for the Umbrella by the lamp post - step on the pad in the pavement below and it rains! Just like "Singing in the Rain"!

Have you been able to see Devine at Animal Kingdom?

Also, I don't think you can go wrong with anything from the Bakery in France.

By the way, they have a pretty good movie there, too. With chairs to sit in. At least I remember it to be good. I was cold and wet at the time, so I was probably grateful for a place to rest for a little while. Did I mention they had chairs? :thumbsup:

Have you ever done any of the tours? The last time I went with my sister we did Dolphins in Depth and Around the World at Epcot on segways. Although it is an extra charge, it was really worth it to us for something new to do and I had a blast on the segway. The dolphins were also great but, because of the weather in January, we ended up walking through the Seas in wetsuits which is not my best look!! (sister is skinny and cute so she didn't mind) I know some tours have age restrictions but there are so many offered that there is bound to be one that everybody will like.

Have you really explored Tom Sawyer Island? We hadn't in several years so we went over one evening around 5 this year. It had cooled off a bit and my DH & I really had fun letting the kids explore and lead us around. I think it was the highlight of my DS's (7) trip!

Rent boats at one of the Magic Kingdom resorts! This is one of our favorite "off the beaten path" things that we do. We typically rent a pontoon boat for an hour and take it around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. It's a lot of fun.

Our two sons, 10 and 6, love dinner at 1900 Park Fare. The Tremaines are great and this year Prince Charming was a hoot, too. We also work several midnight swims into each trip...so different from our schedule at home.

We are going to do the Aqua Seas Tour at Epcot in October. This is our first tour and my kids 8 and 15 are very excited to get to swim with the fishes.:nemo::nemo:

You've GOT TO DO AK EMH in the evening! AK comes alive in a different way at night! The 5-8 pm EMH in the evening is on of the most hidden secrets IMO!

We discovered the Turf Club at Saratoga Springs this past week - loved it! We ended up going twice. The food is excellent, the price is right, and the service is above all the other restaurants at Disney. The best part? We went for lunch twice and we were basically the only ones there both times.

Have you tried the Cirque du Soleil show? It's expensive, but my family was mesmerized by it. It's definitely one of Disney's true hidden gems.

As for food, I second Sherri's recommendations. Kouzzina is fabulous and in a wonderful location. Another restaurant worth trying is Tangerine Cafe, the counter service option in Morocco.

You and your children may be interested in the tours. They are wonderful and there are many to choose from.
There is also the hidden mickey aspect as well. There are tons of books and online sites that will give you clues to your hidden mickey hunt. This has been a favorite in my family for ALL ages!
The Kim Possible Adventure is GREAT and a must do if you have the time. Your children are a great age for it and it is so much fun! I did this with my husband and we had a great time! I can't wait to do more countries on our next trip!
I would also get some information of things that you haven't seen before and try to find them...like the bench in Frontierland with a wooden leg named Smith or find the paintbrush on Tom Sawyers Island first thing in the morning. These little extra's will add to your trip as well.
I know my cousin and her friends go often and each time I give them a different mission. It's a lot of fun for them and it gives them something new to do each time they go. :)

Just FYI, you have to be 16 to participate in the Segway tours.
