We are staying at POR for the first time in October, I have read some good and bad review, I'm worried about getting stuck in Alligator Bayou. Can anyone comment on the rooms? We usually stay at POLY or Contemporary, which I am not expecting it to be like them, but hoping the rooms would still be nice.

We're staying at the POR IN 9 DAYS as well.
We are really hoping for something on magnolia bend (as my dw is from the south).
I don't want to stay in a "rustic" room.
I grew up in a house that was "rustic".
This is also our first stay at this resort.About the only negatives i hear constantly is the mousekeeping and the rooms may be a tad bit dated...
I know room requests are just that..requests.
I have my fingers crossed for a room in the mansions.

We spent 9 days at POR in Alligator Bayou and REALLY liked it. It was secluded and the room was nice. We were pretty far from the food court, but were just steps from the north bus stop, which was fab-o at the end of a long day!

We LOVE POR AB...We have not stayed on the mansion side but we are sooo happy with the rooms in AB...They have great theming and the grounds are so nice and quiet...We are a family of 5 and stay there for the trundle bed but I don't think that I would stay anywhere else if we had the chance...I hope that you wont be disappointed...:mickey:

Put in a request for one of the Magnolia Bend buildings. They'll work to make it happen, although it's not guaranteed.

We love Port Orleans Riverside, even back when it was Dixie Landings. The theming is enjoyable but doesn't hit you over the head. It's so relaxing to walk around, which is what we look for in a vacation: relaxation.

We stayed in the mansions for years & loved it, until last year when we requested AB. While the decor is 'rustic', I enjoyed the feeling of seclusion. A quiet pool was only steps from our door. I hope you'll enjoy wherever you land...you will be in Disney after all. :mickey:

As you can see from my signature, we LOVE POR. We're also big fans of the Bayou, but last trip we stayed in one of the mansions.

I still like the convenient locations of the Bayous (to the main building and main bus depot), but I do like the mansions, too.

Yeah, don't be too disappointed if you get a room in the bayou section. That's where we always stay, and really enjoy it. The mansions look nice on the outside, but the interior decor is not too different. And the layouts are the same.

There is a lot to love about POR. We're going back in 24 days, and can't wait.

I would add the request to your reservation and hope for the best. :) Good luck!

We have stayed and really liked it, we stayed in AB and were far from the main building but close to a bus stop and pool. The grounds are so nice and peaceful. It is a bit spread out but i think you will like it.

I just stayed at POR a few weeks ago. It is a beautiful resort. As others have said, it doesn't "hit you over the head", but it is well themed and the decor is nice an relaxing.

Now I don't know what kind of a room you are used to, but I don't think interiors of the rooms are much different from Mansions to Bayou. The difference is on the outside. We stayed in the Mansions, Magnolia Terrace, to be specific, and it had a gorgeous facade, but inside the rooms are probably adequate, and not any bigger. I thought Alligator Bayou was a very cool looking area. I don't think people mean to say "rustic" as an insult, but as part of the theming.

Keep in mind some other things.
Ol' Man Island is an excellent pool area.
Boatwright's is a good restaurant.
The food court, while crowded, was good.
Boats give you access to French Quarter and Downtown Disney, which you can take advantage of.
The resort offers fishing, boating, kayaking, and a horse and carriage ride.

Yes, POR was a nice place to stay. Enjoy! :mickey:

:cool:Getting "stuck" in the AB section will be the best thing to happen to you !!! It's very laid back, very shaded, just a wonderful place to unwind after a hard day at the park. Although your not at a "deluxe" POR is the closest to being deluxe without the deluxe price !! There are numerous amenities so I feel comfortable in saying your going to love POR, even if you get "stuck" in the AB section....!!

You will find that many people love Alligator Bayou. But you could always just request to be in one of the mansions. We stayed at POR and loved AB. Yes the room was far from the main building, but it was so quiet and relaxing each morning/night walking to and from our rooms. We were only in our rooms to sleep and we are early risers so we were out of the rooms by 7am everyday anyway. My favorite part of POR is the Sassagoula River and boatride to DTD!! Hope you enjoy it there! :mickey:
