I understand that MJ is a free service, so I am willing to give them a try if I can get my resort at a lower price. I don't want to waste their time or mine, so I don't want to ask for a quote unless I'm committed to them. But what if I'm quoted at a higher price than I can get on my own? Do I still have to use them?

I need a resort for a week. No tickets, no add-ons. Simply a room. I can get what I want for a good deal because I'm a passholder. Do you think it's possible to get a better deal using MJ or is it going to be about the same as doing it on my own? Thanks for any advice!

First and foremost....MJ is a sponsor of your favorite discussion board: INTERCOT!!!

Now, as far as your situation...MJ will go through all the myriad discounts (and I am sure that, even for Room Only, there are a few --- AAA, FL resident, etc.) to find the one that best fits your needs.

You will deal with one person directly, not a bunch of phone drones, if and when you have questions.

You will be treated like family, not just another customer.

You don't have to use them if they give you a price. They do use the info you give them to get you the best deal.If something better comes along after you book they will change it for you.

What happens if my resort price goes up? Am I locked in at the lower price or do I have to pay more?

Your price is locked in when you book. It can't go up unless you change it in some way.

For your initial question, PopPhan mostly answered that. MJ can't get you a "lower" price than you could get on your own. No one can. Disney is extremely controlling of their price structure. However, every person at MJ is a Disney specialist. They are trained to know the ins and outs of vacationing with Disney. Thus, they might think of options you wouldn't, which could result in you getting a lower price. Also, as PopPhan noted, you're only dealing with 1 person. I've dealt with Wendy since 2004. She knows all of my family and our needs without even asking. That's so much more pleasant than dealing with the 500+ different CM's I would have spoken with in that same amount of time.

Finally, what MJ is "known" for is that they will always monitor your reservation and if some sort of deal is released after you book they will check your reservation. If the new deal is better then they will update you at the lower price with no effort on your part. Should your current rate be better then they'll keep you at that.

Plus, they are very supportive of Intercot!

I booked last March for WL in September through MJ. Two months later resort discounts were announced which MJ automatically got for me plus a free upgrade. We saved $866.00.

I wouldn't book my trip any other way besides Magical Journeys.

I LOVE MJ. I will not book a trip without Melissa from MJ. She has booked probably my last 5-6 trips and she now books trips for 2 of my friends and about 3 family members. They are wonderful.

I have a question too. Is there anything that is more difficult when booking through MJ? I'm thinking of when WDW was only sending the PhotoPass prepurchase codes to people with vacations booked, but people who booked through MJ weren't getting them and had to call to get the codes. Any other and/or current issues like this? Thanks! :mickey:

Ok, I'm almost sold. But what about paying? Do I pay through MJ or Disney? Is it like Disney, where I pay a certain amount immediately and then pay the rest later? Or do I have to pay all at once?
Can you tell I've never used a travel agency in my life?!

MJ handles the transaction for you. But, otherwise its just like Disney. I like to have our room paid in full prior to arrival, I email Terrisue and tell her to apply X amount to our ressie. Easy as pie. Love Magical Journeys.

I would love to pay in full ahead of time but I'm putting the down payment on my credit card and paying the rest in cash so that won't be possible.

I have one more question: Say I wanted to get MNSSHP tickets. Can I use MJ? Do I have to pay for the tickets up front?

Thank you all for your help!!! :mickey:

If you're room only, you don't have to be paid in full prior to arrival.

The hard tickets you do have to pay for immediately upon booking. I can't remember off the top of my head if the MJ agents can help with that or not.

In terms of payment, you don't "pay" MJ. They take your credit card information and keep it on file, but Disney charges your cc, not MJ. The MJ agent gives your info to Disney. You can do the 1 night room deposit for room only or $200 package deposit just as with Disney.

MJ might not save you any money over what you could do for yourself, IF you spent HOURS online, checked the internet everyday and then hours on the telephone changing your ressies every time a new discount might come along. If you want to do all that, I suggest becoming a agent for MJ instead of a WDW guest.

What they will save you is all that time and worry. So much convenience that costs you NOTHING. MJ is the best Disney deal out there.

We've been A/P holders since 2002. As a family, we've always been obsessed with trip planning since DS had his first trip in '00. I expected to always do better than a T/A after I saw some of the rates I was quoted with agencies - even Corporate ones where I was supposedly a valued client.

In 2005 or thereabouts, I decided to give MJ a try after being locked out of the room only discounts that A/P holders are privvey too - since by the time I got ahold of a reservationist, all of the A/P room-only discounts were sold out.

Since then, MJ has NEVER disappointed me. The service of our agent (Terrisue) amazes me. She's gone above, beyond, and "To Infinity and Beyond" to always get us the lowest rate - and to ensure that we're aware of our options with regard to Magical Express, Dining Options and so much more.

Some day, I hope to meet the magic behind our trips . . . but until then, all I can say is that MJ - and Terrisue - ROCKS! :mickey:

I agree 100%. For years my wife or I spent hours on the phone making reservations and then had to waste who knows how much more time constantly on the look-out for a discount that could pop up at any minute, paranoid that we would miss out.

Now, it's just an email to Terrisue, another email or two to go over options and that's it. No more worries...

Karen at MJ is awesome!! I email her when I wish to go and then she does all the work and gets me the best available rate. Usually I am asleep due to the time difference and I wake up to an email saying I am booked! Now that is stress free! Thank you Karen!

My BFF's husband is sending the two of us to WDW for a week in November. She wanted to book through Southwest Airlines, I told her MJ was the only way to go.

Last week when the discounts came out, Melissa sent me an email - $800 reduction on our trip.

Melissa is not only an amazing TA, she is a friend. She has managed several trips for me and I wouldn't even THINK of booking without her.

I'll give you over a 1,000 reasons. You may not realize an immediate savings, and it certainly won't be more than Disney's rates. The real benefit comes in Magical Journey's monitoring your reservations and the discounts as they are released. We had the free dining package applied to our upcoming trip after we had booked. It saved us over $1000. I didn't have to cancel packages and rebook or do any research. It was taken care of for me.

That is what is so awesome about MJ! On my upcoming trip, I had MJ book and thought I had an amazing rate...then a couple of weeks later I got an email saying my rate went down even further and they had applied the new discount for me. I wouldn't even have known that a further discount was available if it wasn't for them!
