We are planning to book 3 rooms at Pop for January 3 - Jan 8. We want to do the myw pkg with dining.
My DH wants to wait to see if any specials come out before we book.
So what do you guys think that have gone during this time??
Do you think we should book now and then change it if a special comes out?
Or do you think we should just reserve the rooms and pay the required deposit down? How does that work, do they charge us a deposit for each room booked?
In terms of fees for changing what would be the best way to handle this.
Thanks!

The absolute best way to handle this is to book through Magical Journeys (http://yourmagicaljourneys.com/). You can book now to make sure you have your room reserved at the resort you want. Then if any specials are released they will automatically update your reservation. No worries on your part and they cost nothing to you to use. That way you don't have to worry about watching for specials or missing one. They are awesome to work with.

As for deposits - if you do the package it's a $200 deposit. If you do room only it's one night deposit.

Agree 100% with Chris -- Book now through MJ and any discounts/offers/etc. will be applied as best fits your situation.

Enjoy Pop!!

Not sure about using a travel agency!?!? I know they come highly recommended on here, but we actually prefer to book our trips on our own.
So undecided on that because:

*We wouldn't be able to use the Disney online check in if we book through MJ and we want to utilize that to make our check in quicker.

*We have always booked our own trips.

So anyone else have any thoughts besides using MJ? (no offense!)

We always book through MJ and I was able to use the online checkin. All you need for that is your reservation #. It has nothing to do with how or who you booked with.

I agree with other posters. Love using MJ. Takes all the thinking and worrying out. As soon as a discount is released, they will notify you and get you the discount. If it requires a change in room level or something, they will ask you first. So much easier. Definitely use MJ as they are not really a travel agency, but a Disney Vacation Specialist!.

:exactly: Booking through MJ does not in any way altar your ability to do the online check-in or get your 180+10 ADRs.

However, outside of using them your only real option is to wait to book and keep constantly scanning the boards to see if any discounts have been released then calculate everything yourself to see which discount would benefit you the most. Disney often has a lot of "fine print" with their discounts, which is another reason I let the specialists help me figure out which option is best. You can certainly do it yourself. It just means a lot more work and constant monitoring on your part because usually Disney only releases a certain number of rooms per resort on the discounts so by the time you discovered it had been released those rooms might already be full.
