Keeping In Touch With Family While Together On The Cruise

We will be taking our first ever cruise in December, and since our cell phone charges are too high to be able to use them while on board. We wanted to know, what is the best way to keep in contact with each other while we are on the cruise together. Like for example, If someone decides to go to the theater or shopping, and needs to get a hold of someone else in our family on the ship how can we contact each other. Do the personal radio's work on board? How reliable are they?

Walkie talkies work okay, but there are some dead areas on the ship. I don't know if they have a silent or vibrate feature on them while you're in places like the theatre, shows or dinner.

We simply used sticky notes in our stateroom or you could probably just leave each other messages on the room phone too.

We're planning on using the stickey notes too ... doesn't seem to be too many options, in terms of technology.
