July 10, 1910 – Imagineer and Disney Legend Bill Evans was born in Santa Monica, Ca. He would go on to landscape Disneyland as well as consult on the landscape design of Tokyo Disneyland.
July 10, 1931 – Composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, known for his work in Broadway musical theater, was born in N.Y.C. He is best known for the hit musicals Hello, Dolly!, Mame, and La Cage aux Folles. Many of Herman’s show tunes have become pop standards, and two of his tunes, “Put On Your Sunday Clothes” and “It Takes a Moment” could be heard in the Disney/Pixar release “Wall-E.”
July 10, 1955 – The Disney character “Scamp” made his first appearance in the Treasury of Clasic Tales “Lady and the Tramp” comic strip.
July 10, 1972 – Legendary singer-songwriter Mel Torme performed the first of a 13-day engagement at the “Top of the World,” located atop WDW’s Contemporary Resort.
July 10, 1979 – The Disney film “The Spaceman and King Arthur” was released in England.
July 10, 1981 – Disney’s “The Fox and the Hound,” featuring the voices of Jack Albertson, Pearl Bailey, Sandy Duncan, Corey Feldman, Kurt Russell, Paul Winchell, and Mickey Rooney, premiered in theaters.
July 10, 1981 – The Disney film “Once Upon a Mouse” was released.
July 10, 1987 – Disney’s “The Brave Little Toaster” was released in theaters.
July 10, 1992 – Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” was widely released in theaters in Brazil.
July 10, 1993 – The one-hour pilot of Disney’s television series “Country Estates” aired.
