Once in the park, we walked around a bit and I bought Aiden a set of Star Wars figurines as one of his birthday presents. We then went to check in for our Fantasmic! dinner package at Mama Melrose’s. We have previously done the dinner package at Hollywood & Vine and the Brown Derby, and we have never been to Mama’s before so it was new to us.
We were seated pretty quickly and we had a really wonderful server. She had the kid’s food brought out first and was very attentive. The kids each had a pizza. I had the bruschetta appetizer and the pipette pasta with shrimp with the cannoli cake for dessert. My pasta was very good. It had lots of artichoke hearts in it which I love and the sauce was delicious! The bruschetta was ok. It had a lot of balsamic vinegar on it, and while I like balsamic vinegar, it was maybe just a bit too much. Levi had a Caesar salad, the tuna entrée and the cannoli cake. He said the tuna was excellent and cooked perfectly. (He is a chef and can be picky when we’re out to eat!)
I was full and very pleased with our meal here. We will definitely be back to Mama Melrose’s in the future. It actually ended up being one of our favorite meals of the trip.
When we left the restaurant, the sky was started to look ominous. I was hoping the rain would hold off or blow over, but it wasn’t looking promising. We weren’t sure what we were going to do next so we started walking and ran into the Power Rangers getting out of their vehicle and setting up their meet and greets.
I walked by, but Sophie wanted to go back and meet them. Huh? I don’t think she has ever watched a single episode of the Power Rangers to my knowledge. Oh well, whatever. We got in line to meet the green Ranger whose line seemed to be the shortest and bonus, green is Sophie’s favorite color. Well, it was our turn and he signs the book and poses for a few photos, http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=602.jpg then all of a sudden it was madness! There was some lightning off in the distance and all of the Rangers bolted back to their car and sped off leaving lines of people just standing there. I felt so bad for all of the kids who were waiting in line, but I can understand about the weather.
We quickly made our way under the cover by the quick service restaurant back there - what is it, the Studios Catering Company, I think? Anyway, the rain started pouring down and I was thankful we had found a covered place to wait it out and decide what to do next. We had our ponchos, but it was raining really hard, and Sophie didn’t want to get her BBB hair rained on so we just stayed put to see if the rain would let up.
While we were waiting, we heard someone call our names and turned around to see Levi’s Aunt and Uncle and their family who live in Georgia. We had no idea they were at Disney and they just happened to walk by and spotted us. Very crazy! We talked to them for a bit, and eventually the rain did stop.
We went over to the Animation Studio, but the only character there was Sorcerer Mickey and his line was huge. Playhouse Disney was done showing for the day but the line to meet with June was very short so we did that. http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=608.jpg Then we went in for a showing of Voyage of the Little Mermaid. After the show, we contemplated going on the Great Movie Ride, but we didn’t have a ton of time before we had to get seats for Fantasmic! And the line was a little long so we skipped it and just went to get seats for the show.
Fantasmic! is Levi’s favorite nighttime show and I was hoping that the weather would cooperate as this was the only change we had to see it this trip. We got our seats and some snacks and waited. http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=613.jpg Sophie passed the time by trying to hypnotize me with her Stitch light-up toy. http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=616.jpg
There was a guy from the audience running from one side of the amphitheater to the other getting everyone to do the wave and yells tuff. He was hilarious. About 15-20 minutes before showtime, there were raindrops. Oh no! We whipped out our ponchos and Sophie was very careful to protect her hair, lol! http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=618.jpg It wasn’t raining hard, but just enough to cause tons of people to line up at the souvenir carts to buy ponchos. Ten minutes later, the rain stopped, and didn’t start up again.
I said to Levi that Disney must love those short spurts of rain because they must make a fortune on ponchos alone. I know we have bought them at least twice. Thankfully this time we remembered to bring them from home!
The show started only a few minutes late and it was good. Aiden was so tired and fell asleep part way through. He tried to fight it, but he couldn’t.
After the show, we made our way out of the park and back to AKL. The kids were exhausted, and so were Levi and I. http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=622.jpg http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=621.jpg When we got back to our room we saw that Aiden had received a card from Mickey and a towel cake from our Mousekeeper for his birthday. So sweet. http://s900.photobucket.com/albums/ac201/ljv1975/Disney%20-%20May%202010/?action=view¤t=624.jpg
