May 10, 1922 – Actress Nancy Walker, who appears in the 1973 live-action feature “The World’s Greatest Athlete,” was born in Philadelphia, Pa. (She is best remembered as Rosie on the TV commercials for Bounty paper towels.
May 10, 1929 – For the 1st time since moving to Hollywood, Walt Disney released a cartoon without a continuing character. “Skeleton Dance” was the 1st of the Silly Symphony Series.
May 10, 1936 – Disc jockey and voice actor Gary Owens was born in Mitchell, S.D. Known for his polished baritone speaking voice (generally offering deadpan recitations of total nonsense), fans of the 1960 TV series Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In knew Owens as the shows announcer. He was the voice of WDWs Epcot attraction, “World of Motion” (which operated between 1982 and 1996) and narrated the 1954 short “Pigs is Pigs,” his first Disney credit. Owen also has lent his talents to “The Love Bug,” “Return from Witch Mountain,” “Walt Disney World’s 15th Anniversary Celebration,” “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command,” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Owens received a Hollywood Walk-of-Fame Star in 1980 right next to Walt Disney.
