How pretty the Polynesian is in the mornings.
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/SANY4426.jpg We saw two sets of Mom's and their little ducklings in this stream all week.
No lounge this morning. Tonga toast anyone??http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/SANY4430.jpg
Today began at Kona's. Our only not miss breakfast out. 4 rounds of Tonga toast, and macadamia nut pancakes for Steve. Pressed pot of coffee to go with it. We got a cupcake for KT's BD, odd, because we usually get a Kona KoKo puff for BD celebrations, but the plate was still decorated with Lilo and Stitch etched in chocolate dust.
Steve had some work to take care of this am, some printing and faxing, so he left to go to the GF business center to do so, and we headed to AK, with the plans to meet up when he was done. It was about 8:45 am at this point. At the Poly bus stop, 4 DTD busses came in a row, then 3 DHS busses, and no AK busses!! So much for our head start!!! This was the only poor bus situation we had on this trip. When we got on the bus, we texted Steve, and he was already done with his work, and already at the GF bus stop!
AK is my least fave park, but I always end up having fun while I'm there. I love the African music they play on the bus right before you get there. Really gets you in the mood. Katie ran for fastpasses for Kali, while the rest of us headed for Flights of Wonder. We have never seen this before, and were excited to try it.
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/SANY4438.jpg Notice the green bag Khloe is carrying. Our friend in the lounge that we've known for years, that works in the mornings there, gave all the kids gifts for KT's 16th BD!! The girls got the green Polynesian totes, and Kai got a Polynesian zippered pouch that contained playing cards, pad, pencil, and KT got that as well and a Polynesian picture frame. We call our friend our Polynesian Aunt. Hugs to you!
Anyway, Flights of Wonder is a undertalked about gem. This show was delightful, and Steve made it on time to join us for it. We loved this show.
Off to the express train to planet watch. Another first for us. Well, KT was thrilled to meet Pochahantas as soon as we got there. Her fave movie ever, her fave character ever.
Then we saw some tree frogs getting blood drawn. Khloe was sad to learn we just missed the Sea turtles. Outside to the petting area, and I bonded heavily with Duncan, the blind sheep. I love Duncan. I could've stayed with him all day. I brushed him for about 20 mins, while I talked to the CM about him. He ended up laying down at my feet and sleeping. The CM said he had a smile on his face. I don't know what it was about this sheep, but I loved him.http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/SANY4448.jpg
Tonight was supposed to be our date night, for Steve and I. We discussed and decided we wanted to continue to stick together as a group. These are rare times that we can all be together, so we decided to go on a special dinner as a group! I tried for Jikos since we have never been there. I couldn't get it. Well, at this point I got a call from a CM at the Poly. She got us into Jikos at 7:10!! Yeah! We were so happy!!
Off to Flame Tree for lunch. Our favorite in this park.

A table by Everest and we were all set. Khloe bypassed Flame tree and opted for a Turkey leg instead. Ugh!
Next onto Kali to use our fastpasses. I passed on this ride, I didn't feel like getting wet, but the rest of the crew enjoyed it.

Our next stop was the Anaduper (spelling again!) tea company for frozen chais. We sipped and walked slowly on our way out. Soaking it all up. Took great photopasses at this point too, I think one of them just might be our Christmas card photo!!
Back to the Polynesian. Dole whips and water mice were calling. (boy...it seems we're always eating)
The mice were as much fun as always. This is the first time I ever got soaked on a mouse. I went over a "bump" in the water and a sheet of water came over the front of my mouse and I was drenched. And sat in a lake the rest of my ride.http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/SANY4498.jpg We all had fun.
KT and Khloe headed to the MK after micing. The boys swam, and I walked the resort and lounged by the pool. Aren't these interesting palm trees? All snakish and such. I never noticed them on prior trips.

Steve and Kai walked over to GF as well to see if they could use the weight room. Kai wasn't old enough, so he was disappointed. I ended up going to GF too. Got a wash and blowout at the Ivy Trellis for our night out.
We all met up and got ready. We taxied to the AKL. They had a photopass set up in the lobby and they took such great shots as well.
Jiko's was as pretty as a saw on T.V. The open air kitchen was lovely. I spent time taking photos and the Chef talked to me about the ovens and what they make in this particular kitchen, and showed me this hidden mickey on the ceiling over the oven.

Interesting, I thought!!
Well Jikos was delicious, and our server was the best one we have ever had in all our years at WDW. We had a semi circle booth in a lovely location. We had the bread appetizers with dipping sauces to start. Kai had the tomato soup, we shared the chefs special flatbread too. KT and I had the filet with mac and cheese, Khloe the chicken dish, Steve the seafood stew, Kai the mac and cheese. African donuts and pistachio creme brulee for dessert. We liked Jikos, but loved Sanaas. You couldn't help but compare the too. The menu is a little more exotic at Sanaa, and we actually like the decor better. The food was on par with Jikos but much less expensive at Sanaa. So happy we tried Jikos, and KT made friends with this one young woman from South Africa that tried so hard to pronounce Katie and just couldn't!! This was a wonderful date with my family. This day was one of my favorites on the trip. We took our time tonight, took hours with our meal., and ended the night by the firepit outside which we had to ourselves. http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/SANY4520.jpg
There is something so warm and inviting about AKL.
