How does the extra magic hour work for the evening hours?

How does it benefit those that are staying on a Disney Resort?

I am thinking with thousands of people in the park, how do they know which guests are staying at a Disney resort or not.

What am I missing here?

....once in the park for EMH, you have to show your resort ID to gain access to the rides....eg., at night, once the park closes to all but resort guest, you have to show the card, a lot of people remain, who are not resort guests, I suppose they just shop or eat, or just stroll around....I don't think Dinsey will throw you out......:mickey:

actually this is only partially correct. a few hours before the PM EMH start, you will start seeing cast members throughout the park handing out wristbands. You have to show your key to the world card to the cast members and then they will give you a wristband. You must have the wrist band to stay in the park and you won't be permitted on any rides without one once EMH begin.

#1donaldfan is correct. They did away with the wristband system a few (2?) years ago.

You will have to show your resort key card at each attraction. There are a lot of problems with this system and IMO, not a good one.

They stopped doing the wristbands last year. In order to get on a ride, you must now show your resort ID.

No, they were correct. The wrist bands were costing too much money, you now show your ID card at the entrance to the rides. If you got one, you're in, if not you're turned away.

In my experience however, I'm not so sure how closely they are looking at the IDs. In the time they spent looking at mine, I can't imagine they could pick out the dates of my stay, especially when I didn't quite fininsh holding it up for them to see before they waved me through. I'm sure they know what they are doing though...

this is really surprising to me. I was there last May and I still had to get a wristband at EPCOT. I think there has to be a better way than checking a resort ID at every ride. I think if they are going to offer it as a on-property perk, than no one should even be allowed to walk around the parks. I really enjoy the EMHs when its less crowded and you don't wait for snacks, quick service meals, rides, shop queues, etc. I understand they obviously can't walk around and escort everyone out of the park that isn't staying on-property, but at least the wrist bands showed clearly who was and wasn't a resort quest. Anyone have any ideas how this could be accomplished?

Never done EMH PM at AK

Ive found EMH PM at MK is the only one worthwhile because there are a lot of attractions still open and the crowds decrease as the night goes on.

EMH PM at Epcot and DHS are not worthwhile. They get very crowded and the crowds never lighten up.

Wristbands like you said, and they got rid of them. Random stops by security, but Disney wouldn't do that. They assume that people are going to the parks for the rides and if they block off the rides, they will leave.

It's a pretty interesting experience. If you're going for rides, then probably not for everyone, but the park is gorgeous at night. Been trying to get there for a few years now, but they only do it once a week, and for an odd reason, we had always had a late dining reservation for those night. Last trip I finally got it done and it was well worth it.

It's very quiet once you get away from Dinaoand and EE.

We did EMH at AK last October. We got to the park at about 3ish and everyone was leaving! We walked through the Oasis and it was great. peaceful, I could actually hear the music and the "sounds" of AK. We were on the last Safari of the evening and the guide took a little longer around each bend for us.

We went to the last Lion King show and it was great. We at at Yak n Yeti counter service and were dining virtually alone. Rode EE maybe 3-4 times without waiting. We were on the 2nd to last ones to ride EE that night. Walking out to the front of the park was heavenly... like AK was giving us a hug goodbye with all the quiet AK sounds and the foilage wrapping totally around us.

I think this will become a must do for all of our trips!

We were one of the last cars in the parking lot. There were 3 trams waiting for guests to board. We could have had a tram to ourselves but, we decided to do stroller races in the parking lot instead. It was sooo great.

ah, when you guys are talking about EMH at AK its making me miss AK dearly.
Leaving AK at the end of my shift at the end of the day was the best part of my day. The music would still be on :) The birds and animals at the front of the entrance would still be chatting away and doing their usual. (I always felt like they were saying goodbye :)
This past december we did the evening EMH and it was such a great reminder to me of when I was a cast member there :) ah, I love that park at night.
I have been to both EMH when they had the wristbands and when they didn't. Honestly at EMH in MK I didn't have to show my id once. I'm not really sure why they aren't strict with this stuff but I wish they were.
