My sister and best friend has been having pains in her stomach after she eats for awhile now. Over the weekend they started getting worse and she went to the doctor yesterday. He ran some tests and sent her home. Today she woke up vomiting blood and feeling horrible so the doctor hospitalized her. We still have no idea what is wrong. To make matters worse, I am four hours away at law school getting ready to take exams and worrying myself sick about her and the exams. My mom is trying to stay with her but she has rheumatoid arthritis and has not been doing well either. Usually I spend the night with either of them when they are in the hospital and she has never had to spend the night alone (she has a lot of anxiety issues on good days). That's not possible this time and I know Mom is not up to it but she will try to stay anyway. Any pixie dust or prayers you could send our way would be greatly appreciated. She's my baby, and my best friend, and its killing me not being there for her but needing to study at this time too. :scared:

Oh how terrible, here is some for your sister, your mom and you.:pixie::pixie::pixie: Try not to worry too much you need to focus on your exams at this time, and she is in good hands at the hospital.

I'm sorry you can't be there, but I'm sure she understands and wishes you well with your studies. Healing thoughts and prayers to your sister. I hope they find out what's wrong and that she feels better soon.

That is not good. The best thing is that she is where she needs to be, the hospital.

I wish you the best and hope you can get out to see her soon. Hopefully the hospital can diagnose the issue quickly. This is why I wish all hospitals had to have a Dr. House on site.

I went through something similar (minus the blood vomiting). It wound up be a gall bladder problem. The ER went from heartburn (for 4 hours) to acid reflux (for 2 hours) to gastrointestinal issue to pancreatic cancer until the trauma doctor came in and ordered an immediate ultrasound and MRI. Wound up being an inflamed gall bladder. He was furious at the ER doctor and nurses for ignoring the symptoms.

Sending lots of prayers and :pixie::pixie: to your sister, to you, and to your whole family! I'm super close to my sister, too, so I know how worried you must be. :( I hope that everything turns out well and your sister gets better!

Just a quick update...I'm still trying to decide if its good news or not. My sister is still in the hospital but hopefully will get out later today. The doctor says he has given her every test the hospital has and can't find anything. The specialist couldn't find anything. But when she was given some food last night, half an hour later she was in pain again. So they kept her longer. Now the doctor thinks she might have some uncommon disease (he's just now noticing this???) and thinks he might know what it is. He's giving her some medicine to take half an hour before she eats to see if that takes care of it. I'm hoping! Yesterday they were sure it was gallbladder but that came back okay so now we're on to something else. I guess knowing it's not something is still a good thing--wondering what it is is just making me  Hopefully I'll know more later today. She wants me to stay here and study so I'm trying but I really want to be there--she's only six years younger but she's still my baby!

Did they do a gall bladder functioning test or just an ultrasound? My husband lived with a bad gall bladder for close to two years because the ultrasound looked fine and it was until he insisted they look for something, they finally did the functioning test which revealed that his gall bladder was not functioning. They were still not sure that surgery was necessary but, when they actually operated, they discovered his gall bladder was very bad.

Here's :pixiedust: for the entire family! I hope the doctors can diagnose your sister soon so that she can start getting better!

And stay put and study! I know it's hard (been there done that when my dad was sick) but it's what you need to do.

You and your sister are in my thoughts and prayers. Here is a bit of :magic: to help you through. I know how you feel. My sister and I are only 15 mos apart but she is still my baby and best friend too. I worry about her constantly. It is great you two are so close. I hope you get an answer and a cure to the problem soon.

Thanks everyone! My sister finally made it back home after they did literally every test they could on her stomach. Nothing showed up. Finally they made a connection between her depression/anxiety and stomach problems and decided it was probably connected to her nerves. She does seem to get better when she is away from Dad and especially when she is visiting me or we are on vacation. They gave her a pill that we are hoping will help but for now are just waiting for her appointment with her pschiatrist to see if any medicines can be changed. I hope that it is her nerves and not just some excuse since they couldn't find anything else. At least my baby's home. Now I just have to pass these exams! Thanks again!
