5. sorry I was not answering what you asked for.

The answer is Light Magic. It ran from 1997 and was a total failure being replaced quickly. Light Magic ran from May 23, 1997 to September 8, 1997. It did have a soft opening on May 13, 1997.

Correct! The show was so bad that it was dubbed "Light Tragic" by Disney fans. The Disney company stated the show would return in the year 2000 but we are still waiting...

So that just leaves the name of the Disney hotel designing architect to answer on this set. :secret:

Sorry, the question was referring to the monorail at WDW. I was actually looking for the point where the track is at it's highest point above ground. (a location). Hint - it is a lot higher than 41ft.

PS - Enjoyed your trip reports

2. In the world of Walt Disney, who is El Grupo and how did they get their name?

In 1941, the US Government asked Walt Disney to become a cultural ambassador to South America, to fight the growing Nazi influence in the region. On his goodwill tour, Walt brought along several artists handpicked from The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, who were nicknamed “El Grupo,” because South Americans called them “El Grupo Disney,” or “The Disney Group” while they traveled.

Absolutely! One of my favorite shows of all time! 2. What's unique about the plane in the Casablanca scene?

Some people think this was the actual plane used in the movie but was not. It allegedly was used in the movie Tarzans NY adventure and other films in the 1940's before Disney bought it. Half of it is cut off (the back portion) and can be seen on the jungle cruise.
I am not sure though if thats the uniqueness about the plane that you are looking for.

That is the correct answer!

A lot of people think it's the actual plane they used when shooting the movie but they say no full sized plane was used when shooting Casablanca. The uniqueness I was referring to was that it's only half of the plane and the back half is used on the jungle cruise. They really killed two birds with one stone buying that plane! :mickey:

Sound stage where you board/alight
Footlights
Singin' in the rain
Mary Poppins
Gangster scene - Chicago
John Wayne
Western scene
Alien
Fanstasia (Yen Sid)
Tarzan
Raiders of the Lost Ark (Snakes! It had to be snakes!)
Aztec temple (where the CM returns)
Munchkinville
Yellow brick road scene with Oz in the background
Cassablanca
Montage

I suppose this question is a little vague as each person could come up with a different answer, but the way I was looking at it I figured there was 15 seperate scenes. So I'll say your answer is correct!!

Here's how I figured it out...

1. Opening Scene
2. Footlight Parade
3. Singin in the Rain
4. Mary Poppins
5. Gangsters Scene
6. Western Scene
7. Alien
8. Raiders of the Lost Ark
9. The Anubis room (the jewel room)
10. Horror Scene (tomb of mummies)
11. Tarzan
12. Casablanca
13. Fantasia
14. Wizard of Oz
15. Grand Finale

So we both had the same answer I just figured the John wayne and clint eastwood scene as one big western scene. So now we just need the answers to #3 and #5! :mickey:

1) What was the "working title" for EPCOT's Horizons attraction, and why? The working title for this attraction was originally "Century III" because America was entering its third century.

2) The "Grand Opening of Walt Disney World" on NBC featured three very famous race car drivers for the opening of the Grand Prix Raceway, along with Herbie, the Love Bug. Who were the drivers?Al Unser (Sr.), Mario Andretti, and Mark Donahue. The three drivers were, at the time, competing in the USAC Indy car championship.

3) Without looking it up :) : What year<s> and where were the four Walt Disney World Railroad steam locomotives built?squad51 got one of these right. #2, the "Lilly Belle", was originally built in November, 1928 - the same month that Mickey and Minnie made their debuts ;) The other three locomotives: #1 Walter E. Disney and #3 Roger E. Broggie were built side-by-side in the same shop in February 1925. The two locomotives even have consecutive boiler numbers. #4, the Roy O. Disney, is currently the oldest Walt Disney World attraction, being built in 1916 - although a lot of places, including "official" Disney trivia, would have you believe that Prince Charming's Royal Carousel is the oldest, built in 1917.

4) In the "Fantasia" segment of SpectroMagic, what Greek mythological deity adorns one of the floats? That would be Bacchus, god of wine and partying :)

5) What was the precursor to the 1972 debut of the Main Street Electrical parade at Disneyland in California? The Electrical Water Pageant at Walt Disney World debuted with the opening of the park in 1971, as a "test" for an "electrical musical parade". The Main Street Electrical Parade would debut the following year at Disneyland in California.

6) In "Cars", what - and who - was Doc Hudson and his three "Piston Cups" a tribute to (besides "old-school NASCAR racing")?The "Fabulous Hudson Hornet" was a real car that ran in NASCAR's top division, Grand National, in the early 1950's. The car won three consecutive drivers' championships in 1951, 1952, and 1953, with Herb Thomas (1951, 1953) and Tim Flock (1952).
The make then won three consecutive Manufacturer's titles in 1952-54, although Lee Petty, driving an Oldsmobile, won the driver's championship in 1954.

7) In "Mary Poppins", "Uncle Albert" is played by the man who also voiced the Mad Hatter in "Alice in Wonderland". Who is he?Zawadi got this one right; it was Ed Wynn.

8) Eleanor Audley provided the voice for an animated-feature villain, and a theme-park icon. Who are they?Zawadi got this one as well, and I had forgotten there was another villain that she voiced. Madame Leota's voice was provided by Ms. Audley, as well as Lady Tremaine from "Cinderella", and Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty".

9) Mary Blair designed the Grand Canyon Concourse in Disney's Contemporary Resort. What oddball creature can you find in this mural?squad51 got this one. There is indeed a 5-legged goat in the mural. It's at about the 5th-floor level on the south side of the concourse above the Monorail beam.

10) Three more Disney Magic Kingdom-area resorts were originally planned as "Phase II" of Walt Disney World. What were these three resorts? The planned MK-area resorts were: the Venetian (planned between the TTC and Contemporary); the Asian (planned to sit where the Grand Floridian is now situated, but they already had a "Polynesian"); and the Persian, planned to be situated north of the Contemporary on its own Monorail spur, but it didn't really fit in with the theming of Tomorrowland).

11) Who provided the singing voice for Shang in Disney's "Mulan"?Zawadi got another one; it is indeed Donny Osmond ;)

12) What were the previous, but not original (since the park opened with ten), colors of the Monorails?Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Orange, Purple, Pink, Coral, Lime, Gold, Silver, and Black. Purple and Pink are no longer with us; what was left of those two became Teal. The "Tron-orail" was made out of the Coral monorail, which is now Peach. Confused yet? LOL....

13) In "Toy Story 2", Tour Guide Barbie mentions another popular Mattel toy. What toy is it, and what model?Hot Wheels :) And she mentions the Corvette.

14) Walt Disney licensed his characters to what popular toy in the 1930's, saving that company from bankruptcy?Lionel electric trains.

15) Rank these four icons at Walt Disney World in terms of height, from tallest to shortest: Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, Cinderella Castle, Expedition: Everest (and name the heights ;) ).Tallest: Expedition: Everest at 199 1/2 feet; next is Tower of Terror at 199 feet; third is Cinderella Castle at 189 feet; and Space Mountain is 183 feet tall.

16) In "Beauty and the Beast", what four towns show up on the "directional sign" when Maurice claims that Phillipe gets them lost? The four towns are Glendale (CA), Anaheim (CA), Valencia (CA), and Orlando (FL). All four towns have great significance in the history of the Walt Disney Company ;)

17) In what sport did Walt Disney suffer an injury that "severely slowed him down" after the 1940s?squad51 got this one; it was polo.

18) How did Disney legend Marc Davis find out that Walt might not be coming back to the company shortly before he (Walt) passed away?Walt was leaving the studio one afternoon, and instead of his usual "See ya later", or "So long", Walt had said "Goodbye". Walt had *never* said "Goodbye"; at that point, Marc knew there was something seriously wrong with Walt.

19) In "The Country Bears Movie", what was the villain's "real name" (near the end of the movie), played by Christopher Walken?Benny Farnswoggle

20) In "Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room", what are the names of your hosts?badkitty got this one: Michael, Pierre, Fritz, and Jose'.

5) When Walt Disney World first opened, there were two riverboats on the Rivers of America. What were they named, and which one became the Liberty Belle? The two riverboats were originally the Richard F. 6) What were the names of the keelboats that also were on the Rivers of America until 2001?The attraction was called the *Mike* Fink Keelboats, and the individual boats were the Gullywhumper and the Bertha Mae.

Pepsi-cola & Coke-cola

9) Name the countries featured in EPCOT's World Showcase, starting with the one closest to Future World West.Badkitty *attempted* to answer this one, and was close...LOL...Future World West is closest to Canada, followed by United Kingdom, France, Morocco, Japan, United States (American Adventure), Italy, Germany (then African Outpost, although not really a "country"), China, Norway, and Mexico.

10) What fictional town is the setting for Frontierland in Disneyland Paris?Again, Zawadi :) Thunder Mesa is correct.

11) What was the first Disney feature-length film to garner a "PG" rating from the MPAA?The Black Hole, from 1980.

12) What is the current fictional name of Space Mountain, and what does it refer to?Diz_girl got this one. Space Mountain debuted to guests in January 1975. The name given to the attraction currently is "StarPort Seven-five", a nod to its inaugural year.

13) In my last set of Trivia questions, I told you how tall Expedition: Everest is (199 1/2 feet). Why (is it only 199 1/2 feet)?Squad51 and Zawadi both got this correct. Any structure over 200 feet must have an aircraft beacon at the top of the structure as required by the FAA.

14) What were the corporate sponsors of the following attractions: Grand Prix Raceway, Horizons, If You Had Wings, Mission: Space, the original version of Spaceship Earth, County Bear Jamboree, Main Street vehicles (Fire Truck, double-decker bus, etc.), World of Motion, Space Mountain (2)Squad51 got *most* of these:
Grand Prix: Goodyear
Horizons: GE
If You Had Wings: Eastern Airlines
Mission: Space: HP
Country Bear Jamboree: Frito-Lay
Main Street Vehicles: National Car Rental
World of Motion: General Motors

Jack is the famous pirate I was thinking of. Correct Zawadi. Also in the scene is the drinking pirate swinging on the lamppost who is "vocalizing" the song a bit. This is going to get interesting as there are now two sets of questions on the go ;)

6) Why do the Monorails travel in opposite directions on the resort and express loops?

For guest experience. Express TTC to MK via Contemporary is the shortest leg to get guest to MK the quickest. Whilst GF is the "poshest" resort so has the shortest non-stop section to MK.

7) What are the "unofficial" names of the three hitch-hiking ghosts in the Haunted Mansion?

Skeleton is Ezra
Traveler is Phineas

For guest experience. Express TTC to MK via Contemporary is the shortest leg to get guest to MK the quickest. Whilst GF is the "poshest" resort so has the shortest non-stop section to MK.Ummm...LOL...Okaaaay. :) Not the "story" I heard from several Monorail pilots a while back.

We'll see if anyone else comes up with another explanation :)

Zawadi
01-29-2012, 01:47 PM
6) Why do the Monorails travel in opposite directions on the resort and express loops?

In that case I'll have a go with...

It's a speed of deployment issue from the monorail/steam shed, behind the MK, minimising the number of times a pilot must move between the "front" and "rear" cabs.

The spur from the shed feeds towards the MK station on the outer track. This is used for the deployment of EPCOT and Express trains. The switch at TTC from the express (outer) loop to the Epcot loop only works for trains travelling counter-clockwise on the TTC/MK outer loop.

For the deployment of trains on to the resort (inner) loop the pilot changes ends at the MK station and the switch is made as the monorail heads toward the Contemporary.

Therefore, as soon as a monorail train is routed onto a loop (resort, express or Epcot) it is heading in the correct direction.

In that case I'll have a go with...

It's a speed of deployment issue from the monorail/steam shed...Still not the story I've heard from Monorail pilots :) Let's wait and see if anyone else can come up with an answer :)

If you can find early video of the Monorail on YouTube, you'll see that both loops travel in the same direction (clockwise). Of course, we all know nowadays, that the two loops run in opposite directions. I just wanna see if anyone else knows the answer I'm looking for :)

Monorail question: So they can wave to each other as they pass??? :D

Main Street Jim
01-30-2012, 09:04 PM
Zawadi got it on the third try :)

Legend has it that, when the park first opened and the Monorails were traveling the same direction (clockwise on both resort and express loop), they would get to "drag racing" each other, with the resort monorail completely blowing through the Contemporary and the Polynesian on more than a few occasions :) So, one loop was reversed, thereby removing any temptation about racing ever again :) I'm not sure *exactly* when they reversed the direction on the express loop...but....that's the story I got from more than a few long-time Monorail CM friends that I used to hang out with :)

So...Zawadi (I don't even know your real name...LOL...) got #6 and #7 correct. Anyone taking a shot at the rest of 'em?

4) What attraction was originally planned as a sequel to Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress?

5) How many attractions have been hosted in the Fantasyland Theatre, and what are/were they?
Magic Journeys, Lion King, Philarmagic and one even older that I can't rememberAlmost :) The original show that opened with the park in 1971 was the Mickey Mouse Revue, which was "transferred" and still plays to this day at Tokyo Disneyland.

6) Why do the Monorails travel in opposite directions on the resort and express loops?

Prisoner is Gus
Skeleton is Ezra

0) The Davy Crockett Canoes are actually still in use to this day - for a Cast Member-only event. What is it?
Is it Cast Member canoe races? They do this at Disneyland so my guess is it happens at the Magic Kingdom in FL as well? Yep :) Held every July in Florida. It's tougher than it looks/sounds, too...I did it for six diffenet years, all with different teams of people, and we never qualified...LOL...our best-ever time around the Rivers of America was 8 minutes and 32 seconds. The very first time I did it, it took us nearly 20 minutes to navigate...LOL It takes a time of under about 5 minutes, 30 seconds to qualify for a spot in the finals, limited to six teams. 75 teams total are entered every year, although something like over 100+ teams sign up. But due to time constraints (we have to be out of the park before it opens for guests, of course), the cutoff is 75 teams.

So, we got #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10 answered. We still need #8 and #9
