Disney Dollars

This evening I went to my local Disney Store to buy some Disney Dollars for my November trip. I was informed that as of today, Disney Stores are not selling DD anymore, only gift cards. Does anyone know if I can still purchase DD while I am in the World and if so where?

That's bad news if the Disney Stores stopped selling Disney Dollars. I tried to buy some the other day and they said they were out (a common thing lately). They didn't say anything about discontinuing them.

Yes, you can still get them at the parks. I have never done it but I know Guest Relations sells them.

I just went to the disney store on Saturday and they only had $5 bills left. I was told that they will only have them available for purchase online and at the parks. If you go to guest services or the concierge desks at any disney resort, you will be able to purchase them.

Also, when in the parks, if you purchase something, you can ask for your change in Disney Dollars and they will be happy to accomodate if they have it in their registers.

We will be doing this when we go down in 11 days!!!!! We will stock up on Disney Dollars so that we can use them for stocking stuffers.

I was told the same thing, but when I went to disneystore.com they only have the gift cards available, not the dollars. If anyone has found the right spot to purchase them online please post it here - thanks. :)

After doing a little googling... You can buy them through mail direct from DisneyLand or Disney World. But, there is shipping charges. Or I found an online store that sells them on ebay. But, then those are double the price of the face value of the dollar.

maybe searching ebay sellers will have cheaper auctions.

I'd call the Ticketing line where you purchase park tickets. They may have the answer for you on where/how to purchase Disney Dollars.

"Disney Dollars can be purchased in multiple ways - Disney Dollars can be purchased on site at the Disneyland Resort, and Walt Disney World. You can purchase them within some of the shops within the parks, or at City Hall at both the Magic Kingdom at Disney World and Disneyland. They can also be purchased at your local Disney Store, or online through the disneydollars.net eBay store (although these are usually Disney Dollars that are no longer in circulation and therefore, are priced higher than the amount they are worth). Finally, Disney Dollars can be purchased through Disney directly via snail mail. Send a request specifying exactly how much you want in Disney Dollars, and in what denominations, as well as a check or money order payable to Disneyland for that amount plus $10 for shipping and handling to: Disneyland Resort (line 1), Ticket Mail Order (line 2), P.O. Box 61061 (line 3), Anaheim, CA 92803-6161 (line 4). "

I just bought two $1 Disney Dollars on Saturday at the Disney Store at the mall in Knoxville, TN. There was no problem and no one said anything about not selling them anymore.

No problem! NOw that I know this rumor to be true, I will be purchasing them on our trip for our next trip.... boy I'm already planning for the next one and I haven't even left for the current one.

The CM said that the reason is that different characters on gift cards can be sold

They can be used anywhere in Disney

We bought our DD at the concierge desk at our WDW resort, that was on Sept 21st, so this is current info.

I just called the Disney Store near our home (Concord Mills, NC) and was told Disney Stores will no longer sell Disney Dollars - only the Disney resorts/theme parks will sell them.

None available now (9 Oct, 2009) at the Disney Stores.

I just confirmed with our Westfield Fox Valley Mall store that they are no longer carrying Disney Dollars. This is a heartbreaker, because the Disney Dollars were a great extra reward for DS . . . :(

The cards just aren't the same for us.

Thanks to everyone for checking their local Disney Stores to find out if the story was true! I guess when I arrive at the world I will have to sneak away to purchase DD for my girls!:mickey:

My sis & nephew went to the Marlborough, MA Disney store to get me DD for my birthday and my nephew was extremely upset to find out that he had to get a card instead of dollars. They said that they had just found out they wouldn't be selling them anymore, they didn't have any advance notice either!

I prefer the dollars because that way you can see exactly how much you have left.

We discussed in a recent thread how Disney Stores are no longer selling Disney Dollars. I recently made a payment toward my room at FW account in Disney Dollars ($100 we had gathered over time) and the CM told me Disney Dollars are going away entirely. Not just from the Disney Stores but entirely. She happily accepted my Dis$ and I'm sure they'll be spendable for a long time to come - just not buyable.

Has anyone else heard that?

And then I went back on the 17th and they aren't selling them anymore---just the gift card. So I got a $25 gift card instead and I'll tape the receipt to it to be sure it's all good! Oh well, at least I got a few Dollars before they were gone! It's been an easy thing to do by saving all my change for a year.

I'm actually surprised that they have lasted this long. Disney has the cost of printing them and then each Disney Dollar in circulation represents a liability on Disney's books (they may have to honour it at some point). Since all kinds of these end up being stored as souvenirs the total amount of Disney Dollars and thus the liability keeps building.
