My DH and I were discussing tipping mousekeeping this morning. He thinks we should tip at the end of the trip. I think we should leave a tip before leaving for the parks each day. I am afraid we won't have the same person each day. DH is afraid if the person doesn't think we tipped enough, they won't take care of the room. And, he thinks we are tipping for something we haven't had time to critique.

What have you done and which would be better?

..we generally tip as we go, $ 1 per person daily.... that way if mid trip or near the end our first mousekeeper has days off they won't miss our "thank" you !!:mickey:

Tip daily. His argument has no merit. They would have no idea that you plan to tip at the end of your stay, but would think you weren't tipping at all. And then, of course, you do often have different housekeepers on different days. You could end up leaving the whole tip to a housekeeper who only took care of your room the one day. They should, of course, do a proper job on your room regardless of tip or no tip.

In my experience, housekeepers are grateful for any kind of tip. They won't judge you for the amount left. They'll probably be happy to be appreciated in any case.

This topic seems to always get out of hand. :(
Tip what you feel. :thumbsup: After all the discusions and arguments.... What are you really tipping for; that is the question? :confused:

:soapbox: DD and I have decided after all these posts, we are putting up our do not disturb sign. We make our own bed every morning and pick up after ourselves. At that point all they can do is empty the trash, which usually isn't full, and give you fresh towels. If i need more towels I will call downstairs. At that point I will decide if a tip is warranted.

So again really what it boils down to is what are we expecting from mousekeeping? What are we actually tipping for?

Don't stress to much about this subject. Have a good vacation and don't worry about the small stuff. :wishes: Happy Vacationing.

We tip Mousekeeping on a per-day basis on the following, knowing that Disney's Mousekeepers are not a truly "tipped position":

1) That they provide additional hangers, toiletries, towels, etcetera based on our daily written requests with the tip in the morning;
2) That they remove the comforters upon our arrival and keep them out of the room throughout the 14 nights of our stay;
3) That they pay attention to the "Do Not Disturb" sign when it is posted (rarely, as we're usually out of the room before 8:30 am);
4) Removal of extra garbage - of which we have plenty each day, since we eat breakfast in the room & have a nightcap each night on the balcony.

Many moons ago, I was a former resort housekeeper during the summer at an island resort. I know how appreciated those tips were! While we had similar blocks of rooms, we rarely got all 16 rooms the same each day. Therefore, my family tips on a daily (nightly) basis. I have to say that we usually leave our room somewhat tidy, but there's always a need for clean towels, clean sheets when we request them, vacuuming, emptying the garbage, clean glasses, etcetera.

When we go to Disney, we tip $1 per day for each member of our family based on the job performed the night before. If the room cleaning is not up to our standards, or our requests are not met, we simply do not tip. Simple as that. Usually there are one or two nights where expectations have not been met - and I would hate to see the members of the staff who weren't working diligently to make our stay more magical get those tips by way of default since it was our original Mousekeeper's day off!

Do what you feel is right - if you think that no tip is necessary, then don't feel obiligated to leave one. However, don't wait until the end of the week to pass your thanks on to the Mousekeepers that take care of you, as they may not be the ones who get the final tip in the end.

As others have said, you could possibly have different mousekeepers during your stay, so it's best to tip daily.

We leave an envelope on one of the pillows each morning, so it can't be missed. We also tip a little more each night for whoever does the turndown service (many times it's the same person who cleaned our room that morning).

Have a wonderful trip!!!

My DH and I were discussing tipping mousekeeping this morning.

1) We don't tip WDW housekeeping, unless we make a total mess.
2) But, if you are to tip, do it daily.
3) The maids usually keep the same room section(s).
4) But, they have different days off.
5) So, you will not have the same maid for your whole trip.

Pretty much agree with Rusty on this one, although we do tip no matter how messy we are.

We just got back yesterday from POFQ and found we had the same Cloeaner for the entire stay. We personally delivered the tip at the end of our stay. She was very grateful and seemed a bit surprised by it. Hope we made her day!

they remove the comforters upon our arrival and keep them out of the room throughout the 14 nights of our stay.

And, turning down the beds - they don't do that at Values, right?

....my wife thinks that I'm a "overly generous" tipper, but has never had issue with me leaving $5 dollars / day when we stay at POP. I figure that the housekeeping staff does not get paid a "fortune"...and they generally do more than just adequate in keeping our room clean for the 3 of us.

...I must say that this amount must have been more than others were leaving on one of our stays there. Upon checking out of our room...the woman that had been cleaning our room all week was nearby...came up to me...thanked me profusely...and gave me a hug! I was both shocked...and happy that the person appreciated the tips enough to express some form of thanks.

We had the same Mousekeeper every day except for one...I remember them because our main one was named Indiana, and that's where one of my best friends lives, and she was always so smiley and friendly.

The second one was named Georgia. Hah. I guess Nevada and Delaware were off?

Love2Travel...we normally stay at Pop, and though they don't normally turn the beds down, sweet Indiana noticed that my friend had his comforter folded down at the foot of the bed, so every day she did that for him.

I like to tip every day because
1) housekeeping is a tough & tiring job (ugh, specially bathrooms)
2) it's so nice to have someone else clean up after the family besides me!!! :)
