Cast of Characters: Gene & Me
Date: Monday, August 24, 2009
Plan for the Day:
Magic Kingdom
Old Faithful Club for breakfast
El Pirata Y El Perico for Lunch
Flying Fish for dinner
How the Day Really Went: We’re up by 7 a.m. We have breakfast from the Club’s offerings. I have fruit and yogurt though I think this was the beginning and end of my effort to be healthy. While I really do like yogurt, the Old Faithful Club routinely offers two flavors: Strawberry (I know it’s strange but I don’t like strawberries and never eat this flavor) and Harvest Peach (While I like most fruits, this one happens to be just above strawberries on the list of fruit I don’t like)! Gene has fruit and Danish. I have a latte while Gene’s drink of choice is a Hazelnut decaf.

We arrive at the Magic Kingdom a little after 9 to find it is not as busy as it has been.

Peter Pan is approximately a 15 minute standby. Very doable. Mickey’s Philharmagic is next. Wait is about the duration of the show that probably just entered the theater before we arrived. Cinderella’s Carousel is a walk-on.

Dumbo has a 20 minute stand-by so we skip it. It’s just not that important to us and we don’t have any little children for which it is a must-do. Winnie the Pooh lists a 15 minute stand-by but the real wait time is about 10 minutes. Barnstormer is also a walk on.

The Speedway lists a 20 minute wait and that holds true.

Buzz lists a 15 minute standby but the line appears to be much longer than that so we grab fast passes. The Carousel of Progress is another walk on.
Time for some food. We traverse the park to El Pirata y el Perico. We’ve never eaten here before. We each have the beef tacos and enjoy the generous fixings bar to go with it.
Since we’re in the area, we enter Pirates of the Caribbean which is essentially another walk on.
It’s time for our Buzz fast passes so we walk across the park one more time. Gene scores 105,000 points compared to my measly 28,000. I can’t believe I actually revealed that!
We walk right into Stitch’s Great Escape which is not really a surprise. Monsters Inc is a 10-15 minute wait as we move through the various holding areas. One young boy almost walks right through the theater and out the door until his family halts him as he seemed to think it was just another pass through area.
When we exit, we observe BIG, BLACK clouds in the sky! We browse through a few shops along Main Street and visit Town Square Exposition Hall before exiting the park around 2:30 p.m.
It’s sprinkling when we board the boat and when we get off. The pool is still open but there is no sun.
We don’t feel like heading over to Boardwalk today so cancel our Flying Fish reservation. We grab some snacks from the Club and head to our room. Momentarily, we think about changing and heading to the pool but it’s totally overcast. Instead, we nap.
Around 5, we head back to the Club. They’re serving pork loin along with mac n’ cheese. That, along with a beer, will do.
After dinner, we head back to the boat ramp and return to the Magic Kingdom. We walk through Swiss Family Robinson and practically have the whole attraction to ourselves.

Although the skies still look very threatening, it blows over and we remain rain free. We ride Aladdin’s carpets and visit the Tiki room. Here we encounter an annoying guest who keeps making “announcements” on the cast member’s PA system (as long as she up at the entrance and can’t hear him). The Jungle Cruise is a 5 minute stand by. We have an excellent skipper, Jackie, so it’s a really fun cruise! She tells Gene that, when we hit our next anniversary, this will NOT be what I mean when I say I want to go on a cruise! Too cute!
We enter Pirates of the Caribbean where we end up having our own private boat. We head over to Big Thunder Mountain where the standby line is listed as 40 minutes and the fast pass return time is 40 minutes later. No brainer. We pick up fast passes. Splash is down so we suspect that everyone who left that line immediately went over to Big Thunder.
The Haunted Mansion has a 10 minute stand by listing but the reality is less than that. We still have some time to kill so we wander through the shops in Frontierland as we head back to Big Thunder. It works out well as it is now fully dark out for our ride on a runaway train. A mother and son are seated in front of us. She starts off by reassuring her son, however, it soon becomes apparent she really had no idea what she was in for and was clearly terrified! She screamed and screamed throughout the entire ride. When we finally arrive back at the station, she seems frozen in place by terror!
We ride It’s A Small World where we share a boat with only one other family. At the end of the ride, the father behind us taps me on the shoulder to let me know the space shuttle is scheduled to take off later that night! He seemed pretty excited by that!
Peter Pan has a 60 minute stand by! No Way! Instead, we visit Snow White! After this, we head back to Main Street where we wander through the shops a bit more until it’s time for Wishes. Excellent as always!
After the fireworks, we head to the boat dock. For some reason, they’ve sent one of the little boats. Gene and I are the last two allowed aboard! While waiting to get back to Wilderness Lodge, we’re able to watch most of the Electrical Water Pageant.
