Aug. 28, 1988 – Disney received Emmy Awards for the following TV programs and individuals: “Beatrice Arthur” (Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (The Golden Girls)), Estelle Getty” (Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (The Golden Girls)), “O. Tamburri, Jack Chisholm, Stephen A. Jones, Ritch Kenney, Ken Tamburri, Robert G. Kaufmann” (Technical Direction/Electronic Camerawork/Video Control for Series (The Golden Girls)).
Aug. 28, 1989 – Michael Eisner and Jim Henson announced the agreement-in-principle for Disney to acquire Henson Associates, Inc. and to enter into a long-term production agreement with Jim Henson Productions.
Aug. 28, 1991 – Actor Kyle Massey, Cory Baxter on Disney Channel’s “That’s So Raven” and “Cory in the House,” was born in Atlanta, Ga.
Aug. 28, 1994 – The “Art of Disney” shop opened at Disney Village Marketplace at WDW.
Aug. 28, 2001 – Disney’s “The Hunchback of Notre Dame II” was released direct-to-video and DVD.
Aug. 28, 2001 – Disney’s Broadway show “Beauty and the Beast” had its 3000th performance.
Aug. 28, 2003 - Mickey’s Philarmagic soft opened in Fantasyland at WDW.
Aug. 28, 2003 – “Lucky the Dinosaur,” the first Audio-Animatronic figure to walk freely and interact with park guests, was introduced at Disney’s California Adventure as a test.
Aug. 28, 2003 – The night time show, “The Golden Mickey’s” debuted on the Disney Wonder Cruise Ship.
Aug. 28, 2005 – The comedy film “Bob the Butler” premiered on the Disney Channel. Tom Green played Bob, an incompetent man, who decided to get a job as a man servant.
