Please verify: If you don’t have park hoppers, you cannot visit more than one of the four major parks a day (excluding water parks), even if you’re willing to “eat” the additional day.
Correct?

Nope. You can only hop if you have a hopper!

Nope. Notice that you used the word "day" in your question. That is the central point ... you purchase a certain number of DAYS in the parks, not a certain number of ADMISSIONS. You can't possibly have 2 days in 1 day. If you have a 2-day base ticket, that means you are entitled to visit parks on 2 separate days. You cann't use both "days" in a single day.
It may sound confusing, but it is the way Disney set it up.
They set their pricing structure so that a 10-day base ticket ($243) is only $24 more than a 3-day ticket ($219) ... the 4th day costs $6, and each additional day (up to a total of 10 days) costs just $3 ... three bucks! But they charge $52 to add the Park Hopper option to your ticket. They wouldn't be able to do this if you could just pay another $3 to enter a second theme park in a single day.
