Arrival day is always wonderful. Nothing like stepping off that Magical Express bus at the Poly knowing that for the next 9 days, this place belonged to you!!! We stopped curbside for club level arrivals and got our Lei's! We were home!

We opted out of the golf cart ride to the Hawaii bldg, preferring that delicious walk straight on through the lobby, the sounds of the water, the smell that is distinctly the Polynesian. We got a surprise when we sat down for check in at the Hawaii building. We had requested a ground floor room (lagoon view was booked)..we were told our room was assigned, however, the previous guests "self extended"..what that means?? They didn't leave. They took off for the parks, or who knows where else, and left all their belongings, unpacked, in the room. The Polynesian staff had no idea where they were, or when they would return. While sitting there, and it is 3:00 pm at this point, they came back. The Poly said our room may not be ready until 9pm as the prior guests made a huge mess of it. Needless to say, the staff at the Hawaii bldg offered to pay for our dinner at Ohana's that evening, and also provided a second floor room for us to use to freshen up, relax, until ours was ready. That works!!! As if Ohanas isn't wonderful all on its own..Free? Even better.
We freshened up and started our trek to see if we could find BethanyMouse in her wedding gown by the pavillion. The skys opened up and we never made it there.. and I never did find her the rest of the trip, however, we quickly got a page that our room was ready! This is what we got!

Worth our brief wait for!!
Dinner was beyond fantastic. Kai and Khloe had non alcoholic lapu lapus and the rest of us drank peanut sauce..Ha Ha! We love that stuff! Ohana's never disappoints. We officially "arrive" at that first nights Ohana's dinner.
After dinner the lizard hunting began,

And we were off to the MK for the start of our magical stay..did I mention we were celebrating Steve's 50th BD??

We didn't expect to do so very much on our first night, but we walked on all of our top faves. We made it back to our room to watch Wishes from our patio. We are home.

There is no better feeling than stepping on Disney property to begin your vacation and I could feel it in your post! What great luck with the room. Off to read more!!

Arriving is always such fun! Kind of a bummer about the room, but you sound unfazed and they certainly made up for it perhaps? Nicely done! Too bad you didn't catch Bethany, but your room is fantastic and you're off to a great start! Steve's celebrating the right way-- happy birthday, Steve!

The inconvenience of waiting for your room really paid off for you! What great views from your room!

Has it been a year since you were last there or were you there more recently?

Lisa, you and I are so much alike. I take that same picture of my kids in the front of the Poly by the waterfall every single year, and we don't feel like we've really "arrived" in WDW until that first night Ohana dinner. The start to your trip sounds wonderful!!

I agree, it was somewhat of a gift to us that there were check in troubles. Can't beat free Ohana's!

Thanks for sharing...we also take a picture of our three girls in the same spot, but we do ours at the end of the trip instead of the beginning. Usually we are so excited to get going that we don't think to take the picture till the end.

Your magical surprise is so wonderful!! Congrats and I must say I am a bit jealous...walking through Poly to shop quick was like a trip home, and seeing it from our resort my Dsis said "I feel like I'm betraying the Poly! It's my home!" ha ha ha:cloud9:
