June 5, 1999 – “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” attraction opened in Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. (Replaced “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.)
June 5, 2000 – The 3 ½ minute Disney/Pixar short “For The Birds” was released at the Annecy Film Festival in France.
June 5, 2001 – Disney’s “Oliver & Company” was released on video and DVD.
June 5, 2001 – The 1949 Disney film “So Dear To My Heart” was re-released on VHS and DVD.
June 5, 2004 – The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra performed the score to Plane Crazy (a 1928 Mickey Mouse short) live at UCLA’s Royce Hall. It was preceded by a screening of Buster Keaton’s Steamboat Bill Jr. (the film that influenced Walt’s first taking Mickey short).
June 5, 2004 – Ronald Reagan, our 40th president, passed away at the age of 93 at his Bel Air, Ca. home. An actor and governor of California (for 2 terms), Reagan took part in the TV Broadcast of Disneyland’s grand opening in 1955. At 4:30 on the this day, the American Flag in Disneyland’s Town Square was lowered to half mast.
June 5, 2004 – Johnny Depp was awarded Best Male Performance at the MTV Movie Awards for his role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.”
June 5, 2006 – Walt Disney’s special edition DVD “Dumbo: Big Top Edition” was released.
June 5, 2007 – Disney Legend Charles Ridgway appeared at the Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Winston-Salem, N.C. to promote his book “Spinning Disney’s World.”
June 5, 2007 – Diane Disney Miller (daughter of Walt Disney) rededicated the Walt Disney Elementary School in Bucks County, Pa. It’s been fifty years since her dad Walt first came to the school (the first to ever bare his name).

My DD absolutely freaked when we rode this ride when she was 4. We must have ridden it 4-5 times. I know folks miss Mr. Toad, but this is a great one in my book. I love the "floating in water effect" after it rains, and before that looking for the "deed handover" in the beginning.
