Our first full day at WDW! Its wonderful to wake up and realize we're no longer in NJ..! The five of us dress and head up to breakfast in the lounge. Our table by the window seems to always be open and we have our danishes, cereal and fruit while watching the resort wake up thru the big windows. Today Steve and I have an appt. with DVC. They are scheduled to pick us up at 8:30am. This is the first time we let the kids go off on their own, the three of them that is. The girls have been let loose in the MK before, but never with Kai. We discussed how we will communicate with each other, a meeting place for them if one should get seperated, and all the ground rules. The kids left for MK park opening, and Steve and I met the DVC van out front.
Wow. What an operation that DVC tour is ...it was a DVC factory. The greeting room, the waiting room, the getting to know you area, the touring area, the finance room area, the transportation area...it was wild to us. There were so many couples touring. They had it down like a science. We took everything with us to think about. DH reminds me we could've had this thing paid off if we started years ago...We loved the BLT rooms. Loved them. Perhaps we will be owners in the future?? My heart belongs to the Poly though...its hard to think about not staying there like we always do!
We met the kids at the Roy Disney/Minnie bench when the DVC van dropped us at the MK. They did great! They were the first to arrive in Fantasy Land in the morning and rode it all, including the first ride on Dumbo!! All was well. We had some time before our lunch at the Plaza. I hit the Emporium. Got my Mickey Ice Cream scoop and measuring spoons to add to my collection..got my 2 coffee cups to add to my collection and 2 pairs of earrings. I got a Birthday trading pin for my collection ( I put them all on my visor to mark each of our trips) and a Celebration pin. Done with shopping we took in a quick Buzz ride using our fastpass we got from our broken down Jungle Cruise yesterday. http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0548.jpg We took a spin on the TTA http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0549.jpg That is always so very relaxing!! We headed over to the Plaza and saw the Main Street Players, my personal favorites. http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0556.jpg We enjoyed them while waiting for our table. We were seated in the pretty glass room inside the Plaza and had a great lunch. This was our first time there, it was very good, but I wouldn't hurry back to spend 80 dollars on lunch for our family of 5. I had the Plaza club http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0564.jpg and Katie had the chicken salad with strawberries. http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0565.jpg It really was special when the Mayor and the female actress who plays the old fashioned lady on Main Street came in and made a big deal of Khloes BD..another cupcake for Khloe and the birthday confetti gave Kai the MousePox!!!! http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0563.jpg We left our lunch and went off to do some Wishing in the fountains around the Castle..Wishing is something we do each trip, each time we come across a fountain. We all get into it. Off to Splash and our first ride on our favorite Mountain for this trip! The kids saved this ride to do with us..We got SOAKED by the water cannon as a log dropped before we even really began our ride. Soaked to the bone...Ugh. We had gotten fastpasses from our DVC tour, 15 of them, and we used them for Splash since the line was 60mins wait. That was a huge timesaver.
We decided to head back to the pool and resort for some fun. It was in the mid 80's and we wanted to enjoy the resort for awhile. Kai is a master Lizard hunter..no he never hurts them, he loves them all and spends most of his time at the Poly looking for them. Check out his lizard skills. Impressive, no? http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0621.jpg Its a gift, really it is..;) http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0622.jpg In the meantime, Katie could be found in her happy place, the beach is her home away from home... http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0629.jpg The girls and I got ready for our dinner at Tokyo Dining and left the slowpoke boys behind. We wanted to trade in our DVC fastpasses for Soarin', and in order to do that, the fastpass machines still had to be open. We got a head start and off to The Land we went!! We successfully retrieved 5 fastpasses for Soarin' and split a piece of Butterfinger cheesecake from Sunshine seasons while we waited for the boys. They arrived a bit later and we rode Soarin'!! Our favorite ride ever!! Never gets old. Off to Tokyo Dining and what a wonderful surprise this place was. This is a keeper, my friends. This is one of the best meals we have ever had in WDW. Why we don't hear more about this place is beyond me. The tempura was outrageously delicious, the sushi heavenly, the service amazing, bowing and thanking us every 5 seconds..and Kai's kids meal came in a monorail!!! http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/lcrimando/march%2009/?action=view&current=SANY0659.jpg Khloe had another BD treat, Japanese Ginger cake..then we toured the countries for a bit, and headed back to the Poly for the Electrical Water Parade. Snacks in the lounge, and we were good. So good. A great first full day.

Do you get to keep the monorail?

Nope! No keeping the Monorail. It wasn't a cardboard container shaped like the monorail, it was actually very hard plastic. I can't say enough good things about Tokyo Dining. It blew the doors off Teppan Edo.

I too would love to buy into he DVC- but I haven't convinced my husband of that yet. Plus with the economy. Anyway great report. The poly is one of the resorts I would love to try. Thanks for sharing

Another great day! Your reasons for not buying DVC yet are mine, too. I love the Grand Floridian and the Poly, and it's hard to think about not staying there (at one or the other) every time. I'm not ready for that. But BLT gets me closer to considering it.

I think Tokyo Dining is just new enough not to have established a following yet. I haven't read a bad review of Tokyo Dining. And I'm still not trying it next trip. We have so many really great Japanese restaurants close to home.

Ok Lisa, you have made it very easy to pick where we are going to eat in Epcot in November. We have been trying to decide whether to do something new or stick with an old favorite, but now I know we will be trying something new. I can't get over the cool monorail plate. Your day sounded so great. What a way to spend your frist full day in WDW. I am off to read more.

I bet Kai was excited to be part of the "independent" group, huh?! We keep discussing DVC, but we never seem to pull the trigger on the tour when we're down there.

Ah, you were blasted with the water canon. We had this happen last trip on a few separate occasions. It really get you soaked!

Another great day - thanks for sharing! :mickey:
