We are planning a big family trip for the last week of September. My brother who hasn't been since he was a kid is coming along. He's bringing his girlfriend who's never been and her 9 yr old son who's also never been. I was excited about all the new stuff my brother's never seen (he's never even been to AK), but now with the girlfriend and the son we have some true newbies along. We're planning to do MNSSHP which I'm betting will be a hit with the 9 yr old and we're hoping to catch the Food & Wine Festival. I'm figuring 9 will be a good age because he should be able to ride most anything. What kinds of things would you recommend for a 9 yr old? DH is pumped because he's been wanting to do the design your own light saber in DTD since he saw it 2 years ago. We hear the 9 yr old is a Star Wars fan so DH will finally have the excuse he needs to buy a light saber.

It's depends on the 9 year old - many are real daredevils and will love the coasters. Some are more restrained and will want nothing to do with the coasters.

Would he like a visit to the barber or the cool dude at Bibbity?

How about fishing?

I have a nine year old boy (one of three boys!) that loves to ride Mt. Everest at AK. Your little nine year old newbie should be old enough to ride any of the rides he wants. It's just depends on how much of a thrill seeker he is...It'll be so much fun!:mickey:

My twins are about to turn 8 (in Disneyland!) and so we know a lot about what boys that age love!

EPCOT center has robot races at Innoventions, really cool. Test Track is a must -- Mission Space a maybe, all depends on how he does with motion sickness. Soarin' is a thrill no matter what age you are.

Magic Kingdom has Pirates of the Carribeen, which for boys that age is a must see. Space Mountain probably, Thunder Mountain definitely, Splash Mountain is a must do.

Animal Kingdom -- Kali River Rapids, lots of fun, and Expedition Everest, my twins insisted on doing it at 6 and loved it.

Disney Studios -- Star Tours is a total must, but you said he was a SW fan so that's not hard to figure out. Jedi Training Academy is really cool at that age. Tower of terror really depends on the kid, as well as Rockin Roller Coaster.

Have a great time!!

No treally an attraction but my DD11 loved doing the hidden mickey's this past October when we went. We rented the book from the library and she read it. Then we decided to purchase it once we knew she would like to try it out because she would need to be able to take notes in it and such.

Just a thought. Happy planning!!!!!!:mickey:

Oooh good ideas so far. I have a hidden Mickey book that I will need to be sure to bring along. I had forgotten about the robot races and the Jedi training academy. I think he is pretty adventuresome when it comes to rides.

For a 9 yr old Star Wars fan, Jedi Training maybe a must do. If you fail to get in a show, stand in the same place and try again at the next session. He may, in addition to all the rides mentioned, really like the Indiana Jones Stunt Show and Lights Motors Action at the Studios. Also Kali River at AK, if you don't mind getting drenched. :D
