Isn't great not having to worry about finding a way to the resorts! Just relax and poof! :magic: you are at WDW with no bags to mess with! My Kids love the buses! My ds 3, had to have the Disney Bus toys (three of them, Magical Express, Cruise Bus, and the resort bus).

Yep, I think they had a multi-year contract. I don't remember exactly how long it's for though.

DME started May 5, 2005. They announced it would have an 18-month trial period.

In March 2006, Disney signed a new contract with the Greater Orlando Airport Authority, extending DME through December 31, 2011.

There have been completely false, unsubstantiated rumors about cost since before DME even started. It remains free.
