Quick question for anyone who's been in Las Vegas recently.

I'll be there this weekend and hope to see Penn & Teller and one of the Cirque du Soleil shows. I'd like to do it on the cheap if possible so...

has anyone seen tickets for these shows available at the any of the 1/2 price ticket locations recently?

I'm sure that O and Zumanity are probably out of the question but I did get to see Mystere for half price a few years ago.

any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I was just there this past week and went to the tix for tonight and I do believe I saw those shows on the list. When you go they have a listing of all the shows they are selling tickets for that nite to chose from. Have fun.

There's a really great site out there that offers wonderful advance discounts on shows ahead of time. You can usually receive 25 - 50% off.

I used this site last March (it basically just connects you to the hotel that hosts the show and inputs a coupon code).

I saw Mystere (Cirque du Soleil), 3rd row center for 65% off last March. I believe they now have Ka' and Beatles' Love ticket discounts as well.

I have never seen Penn & Teller discounts ahead of time, but you can probably check with the ticket brokers on the strip the day of for some discounts.

PM me if you want the site I've used in the past for discounts.

I was there two weeks ago and all of the Cirque shows had discounted tickets. Not necessarily 1/2 off but much cheaper. You can go to any of the tix tonight booths for the discounts. You can also get dinner discounts. The two most impressive places we ate (we did not try all of the options) were Mario Bertelli's place at the Venetian and the "Le Artists" place at Paris. Both wonderful and 1/2 off entrees.

Check out the travelzoo site as well as the often offer discount Las Vegas shows. On a side note, we were picking up a friend at the airport and Penn walked out and got in the SUV behind us.

As far as my luck went for the week, the Flamingo and the Luxor were my lucky spots at craps and blackjack.

Don't plan on the grand canyon. My wife and I drove over there and got stuck in a blizzard and never made it into the park.

I'm going to hijack your thread for a moment, hope you don't mind. ;)

For those who have gone recently, how were the food prices? My friends and I may be going in May and that is my biggest budgeting concern.

Any tips on how to do Vegas on the cheap?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

The food prices were a little steep. I think we paid $10 for a hot dog and fries at the Palm. Even the nights we used the 1/2 off dinner things, we still spent $80-$100 when you added one glass of wine, an appetizer, two 1/2 off dinners, and a dessert.

I will say though, one night we had 1/2 off the price of an all you can eat sushi bar. The wife and I stuck with water and came out for about $40 full of sushi, crab legs, other asian dinner items, and desserts. Very good bargain.

As far as cheap, here are my tips:
1) See the free shows that casinos do out front (Bellagion fountain, Pirate show, lion exhibit).
2) Buy cheap 1/2 tickets to Cirque shows. The night we went (Tuesday) it was a lite crowd and the moved us to the third row.
3) Rent a car. We got on price line and was able to rent a car from the airport for about $17 a day. We had three people that drove around in it. All of the casinos had free parking. Much cheaper than cab rides.
4) Save your drinking for when you are gambling. They give you free alcohol. At dinner, it costs us $10 or so per drink.

Lastly, prepare yourself mentally for the sheer number of people on the street passing out cards for ladies of the evening. It really spooked and irritated my wife for the first 3 days we were there.

Oh, I've been to Vegas once a few years back, so I already knew about the evening ladies. My parents were paying for everything and I didn't pay much attention to prices. I heard that they were getting better with the economy being so bad, but maybe that's not the case. Thanks for your input!

I think the biggest savings are in the hotel costs. The crowds are down so there are more rooms to choose from in Vegas. Through a travel site, we were able to stay at the Luxor for under $60 a night.

We were just there in February and found that while it was relaively cheap to stay there a lot of the other things had gone up. If you can get discounts for restaurants that will help. If you are going during the week a lot of the shows will be dark. In most of the casinos we were in they were only playing half the tables. They are really hurting right now and are making huge cuts in what is available

I never go to Las Vegas without a stop at Ellis Island. It is a great restaurant, a block behind Bally's on Koval Drive. For $6.95, you get a salad, sirloin steak, baked potato, green beans. Also comes with a beer or home made root beer. It is not on the menu. You have to ask for it
