Driving within WDW

Hi,
We may be driving to Florida from NH this spring. I'm wondering how easy it is to get around WDW by car? How expensive is it to park? Can we use WDW transportation from park to park or do we have to drive - we will not be staying on property. Thanks for your help! :D

If you are not staying on property, I believe the parking at each park is around $12. That will get you parking privileges for the entire day. So if you start at one park and want to go to another, you can either take Disney transporation and then return to your car, or you can get your car, show your receipt at the next park, and park your car again without an additional fee. How you do it might depend on which parks you are going to and what time of day.

By the way, WDW is extremely easy to navigate in a car - the entire property is very well signed. Even when staying on property, we'll often drive so we have better control of our own transporation. Have a great trip!

Walt Disney World is well marked so you shouldn't have a lot of trouble navigating on property.

I believe parking is $12.00 per day which you would only need to pay once on any given day. Just save your paperwork to show at another parking lot.

You can use Walt Disney transportation from park to park and not take your car to each park but do pay attention to park closing times. If you leave your car at a park that closes at 5 p.m. and use Disney transportation to travel to a park that closes at 10 p.m., you would not have transporation back to the park where you left your car.

Driving around isn't too difficult and not too busy, however there are a few things to be aware of.
1) Busses are crazy, watch out for them.
2) Unless it is on your ticket or part of your hotel stay, you will pay for parking everywhere.
3) Fuel on property is about the same as off, no need to drive way off property to get a decent rate on petrol.
4) While the world is signed well, print out maps or (if your renting a car) get the GPS option. It can be a bit confusing with all of the parks--> resort, etc.

We rented a car in Sept and took a day trip to a few stores, picked up some groceries and saved a bundle making breakfast in our DVC kitchen.

Honestly, I'd say drive park to park since you'll have your own car anyway. The driving is easy (well marked as pointed out) and you'll get around much faster with your car.The only park with any real distance on the tram is MK.

Personally, I get lost every time. And I drive a big brown truck for a living! Do get some good maps.

You're not kidding. These things do not follow any of the normal rules of the road. Yielding the right of way means nothing. It was so bad on our last trip I nearly wrote a letter to Disney.

Thanks to everyone for the good advice. I'm not sure now if we'll be going to WDW :(, but if I do I think I'll rely on shuttles. We seem to get lost whenever we rent a car in FL :blush:.

Actually, park-to-park shuttles should run until the later of the 2 parks is clear (empty of guests.)

But getting from a resort to a park that's already closed can be a problem.

I am from that area and I still get lost in Florida, so don't feel bad. Oh, and my job back then was driving all over North and Central Florida LOL. The worst part for me is trying to get back to Pop Century sometimes when I've stayed there.
