Only Rehabs Can Prevent Inferno Fires

1/30/09 Epcot Cast have reported that the Inferno Barge will be removed from the nightly Illuminations Reflections of Earth show for a brief refurbishment. The refurbishment is tentatively scheduled to start February 1, 2009 and last 3 - 4 weeks. During this time period Illuminations will be presented as scheduled, but with-out the Inferno Barge's effects.

Celebrate the Details

1/30/09 The Magic Kingdom has recently added a new kiosk and added a new feature to a classic attraction as part of the resorts "What will you celebrate?" marketing campaign. Guests wishing to get a button to celebrate their special occasion should now visit the new "button cart" that has been set-up outside of City Hall. The cart features newly designed Birthday, Anniversary, Honeymoon, First Visit, and Family Reunion buttons in addition to a new catch-all "Celebrate!" button. Guests can continue to celebrate their occasion on the classic Tommorowland Speedway attraction. The attraction has recently introduced "tailgate signs" that can be attached to the back of the celebrating Guest's speedway vehicle. Guests can currently choose signs to help them celebrate their Birthday, Honeymoon, or Anniversary.

Mexico Mixer

1/30/09 It has been internally announced that the interior retail area of the Mexico pavilion will be rearranged. Casa Mexicana, the exhibit of a traditional Mexican homestead, has closed and construction permits have been filed to modify walls, casework, lighting, doors and fire sprinklers. Once the construction is complete, it has been internally announced that Artesanias Mexicanas will move into the new location. While a replacement for the soon-to-be former Artesanias Mexicanas area has not been announced, it is currently rumoured among Cast that it will become the long-delayed tequila bar.

Mission: Possible

1/27/09 A few more details have been revealed from the on-going Soft Opening Previews of the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure.

Guests start their Adventure by reporting to one of the recruitment centers (located in Innoventions West, in Innoventions East, near the Odyssey Bridge and near the International Gateway Entrance/Exit). Guests can also start their adventure at any of the field stations located at each country, but to get the full experience it is recommended to start at one of the recruiting stations at least once. Once signed-up, Guests will receive a Mission Pass (that looks very similar to a FastPass) telling Guests a field service location (World Showcase Pavilion) to report to and a time to report there.

At their designated time and location, Guests should proceed to the designated countries pavilion and find the Kim Possible noted cart. Once there Guests will be assigned to an actual Adventure (so if Guests have a preference they may request one at that time). *Note* The country Guest are instructed to report to, may not be the country their Adventure is in. Once assigned, Guests will be given a Kimmunicator device and start their adventure by following clues, completing tasks and interacting with hidden show features all around one of the World Showcase pavilions. Once the adventure is complete, Guests will be direct to a drop-box for their Kimmunicator. If Guests wish to complete another Adventure, they may do so by signing up at one of the recruiting or field stations.

1/13/09 The Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure has been announced to conduct its Official Grand Opening January 28, 2009. Disney Vacation Club members will be eligible for a preview of the interactive attraction January 23 - 25, 2009 from 11:00 am - 7:00 pm daily. In lieu of a preview, Annual Passholders can sign-up to have their spot reserved in the attraction's virtual queue in advance of their arrival. These limited advance reservation can only be made for February 26 through March 1, 2009 from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm each day. The advanced reservations will open on February 5, 2009 at 10:00 am EST on the Annual Passholder website.

According to the recent announcements, each "adventure" is expected to take Guests 30 - 45 minutes to complete. Actual reports from Guest Previews have averaged closer to 15 - 30 minutes to complete an adventure. With 7 total adventures, the complete attraction could take Guests 2 - 5 hours to complete not including their time spent in the virtual queue in between each adventure.

InnovenChange

1/27/09 A portion of the new IBM THINKPlace exhibit has opened in Innoventions West. This portion of the new exhibit allows Guests to play a classic style video game with them as the star. Guests start at a kiosk where they are digitally recorded running, jumping, and dancing. Once each motion is recorded Guests can review the recording and "keep it" or "try again". Once all three actions have been recorded and accepted, Guests move to a second kiosk where they play the video game with they are now the main character.

1/7/09 The IBM THINKPlace exhibit in Innoventions West has closed for what appears to be a major renovation. Construction walls surrounding the area feature a marquee that reads, "the NEW! THINKplace presented by IBM COMING SOON!"

Aloha Chocolate, Aloha Orange

1/27/09 Aloha Isle has further revised its menu to more fully incorporate its new Dole Whip flavor. The location's soft serve menu items are listed as follows Pineapple Dole Whip, Vanilla Dole Whip, Pineapple-Vanilla Swirl Dole Whip, Citrus Swirl, Pineapple Float, and Pineapple-Orange Float. The Pineapple-Orange Float is descried as "Orange Dole Whip with Pineapple Juice". The Citrus Swirl is described as "frozen orange and vanilla soft serve"; it has not been reported if the Sunshine Terrace still serves the Citrus Swirl or not. Oddly, Orange Dole Whip is not listed as a menu option although they clearly use it to make the Pineapple-Orange Float.

1/7/09 Aloha Isle, in the Adventureland section of the Magic Kingdom, has modified its flavor offerings for its popular Dole Whip frozen treat. The chocolate flavor has been retired, and a new orange flavor has been introduced.

Third Tweak a Charm?

1/24/09The Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade (slight name change from the announcement) debuted on January 23, 2009 as scheduled. The parade features a new original soundtrack and a few float revisions. The Walt Disney Mini-Float marquee has been replaced with a banner marquee that features criss-crossed banners that read “Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade”. The "it all started with a mouse" float has undergone the most significant changes. The film reels have been transformed into ribbon spools and the film strips comprising the Mickey-icon structure has been replaced with colorful “Celebrate today” banners forming the iconic silhouette. The various statues depicting Mickey’s incarnations have been removed and over-sized blowout horns and streamer horns have been added. Minnie Mouse now joins Mickey on this float and both are in their new “Celebration” attire. The Cinderella Castle float has also received some significant changes. The “A Kingdom of Dreams” banner has been replaced with a “Celebrate Today” banner. The float has also been adorn with cloud sculptures and Mickey-Mouse balloon statutes. The float now features Chip, Dale, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy all in their new “Celebration” attire. The Character troupes in-between the floats have been replaced with dance troupes. The parade has also added a show stop where the dance troupes perform a dance number. For those interested in viewing the new parade, a search on YouTube with the phrase "Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade" should pull up several videos.

Would you like (more than) fries with that?

1/24/09 After an approximate week and half delay, the Golden Oak Outpost has opened in the Frontierland section of the Magic Kingdom. The new quick service location offers Fried Chicken Breast sandwich, Chicken Nuggets, a Vegetarian Flatbread Wrap, French Fries, Chocolate Chip Cookies and assorted beverages. The entrees are priced $6.79-$6.89 and the French Fries are priced at $2.49. Similar to the TriloBites replacement of PetriFries, Golden Oak Outpost does not serve McDonald’s branded food items although its predecessor did. With this change in cuisine, the only placed left in the Magic Kingdom serving McDonald’s branded food items is the Village Fry Shoppe in Fantasyland.

1/9/09 It has been internally announced that Frontierland Fries will be renamed The Golden Oak Outpost when it re-opens from its current refurbishment. It has also been additionally announced that the menu will feature chicken nuggets, fried chicken sandwich, and veggie wraps. It was not clarified at the time of the announcement if these would be McDonald’s Branded food items as originally reported.

1/7/09 TriloBites has opened in the former location of PetriFries in the Dinoland section of the Animal Kingdom a few days ahead of schedule. Contrary to initial reports, the location no longer serves McDonald Branded products. The new location serves smoked Turkey legs, soft drinks and bottled water only.

Wondering What's Next

1/24/09The last bastion of the original Wonders of Life pavilion has been slated to be removed. Construction permits have been filled to demolish the Fitness Fairgrounds area that has remained mostly untouched since the pavilion’s conversion into the Wonders of Life Festival Center. The construction permits appear to indicated that although the area will undergo demolition, much of the area will be rebuilt (likely in a form the better fits the pavilions new use). The exact changes to this area will likely not be known until the pavilion opens to the public for operation during the 2009 International Flower & Garden Festival.

A More Contemporary Tower

1/24/09 Further developments have occurred regarding the on-going renovations of the Grand Concourse level at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Concourse Sundries and Spirits closed for renovations on January 20, 2009. The location has been internally announced to re-open April 3, 2009 under the new moniker of “Fantasia Marketplace”. The new Outer Rim lounge has opened at the site of the former Tempo Grab-and-Go. It has yet to be reported if the new location has brought any new offerings. Chef Mickey’s has begun to under go a partitioned refurbishment. Although a timetable has yet to be announced, it has been announced that the restaurant will be renovated in sections while continuing to fully operate. Seating availability may be reduced at times during the on-going refurbishments, which may lead to longer waits to be seated or unavailability of walk-up reservations.

1/7/09 Resort Cast have reported that further changes are in store for the main Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The Sundries Shop will be closed for refurbishment January through April 2009. The newly remodeled Sundries Shop will offer new merchandise that will cater to the future Disney Vacation Club Guests at the resort. The California Grill and Chef Mickey’s are both slated to receive cosmetic refurbishments to fit the new décor style of the resort, it is currently not expected that these refurbishments will cause location closures. A new Outer Rim bar is currently in the process of being constructed on the former location of the Tempo Grab & Go quick service restaurant. Construction permits have been filed for new signage for Chef Mickey’s and the Outer Rim Lounge. Time tables have not been currently reported for the aforementioned restaurant work.

A Wrangl'n Refurb

1/9/09 It has been internally announced that the planned refurbishment for Pecos Bill Café will be postponed approximately one week. The restaurant is now scheduled to be closed for refurbishment January 17th through February 20, 2009. It has been further announced that El Pirata y El Perico will be operating daily during the refurbishment to compensate for the loss of the counter service option. The location will be operating as a counter service location and offer a temporary menu featuring Caesar Salads, Hamburgers, BBQ pork sandwiches, and Childrens’s Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches. During the refurbishment most of the Pecos Bill Café seating area of is expected to be available for Guests dining at the adjacent El Pirata y El Perico; however, it has not been announced if the “fixin’s bars” would be available during the refurbishment or not. Due to the closure of the Peccos Bill Café lobby as part of the refurbishment, Guests will need to enter the main entrance of El Pirata y El Perico to access the counter and open seating areas.

A Stitch Stage

1/7/09 Construction permits have been filed and work has begun for a new stage in Tommorowland. According to the permits, the new stage will be called “Magical Celebrations Stage”. Entertainment Cast have reported that the stage will be initially used for the forthcoming Stitch’s SuperSonic Celebration show.

Help yourself

1/7/09 Liberty Inn in Epcot’s American Adventure pavilion has recently debuted Guest Service Beverage Stations. Liberty Inn is the second location to offer such following the Electric Umbrella in Epcot’s Future World.

Living with Changes

1/7/09 The final exhibit in the Living with the Land has been replaced. After a brief refurbishment (that did no affect the operation of the attraction), a new exhibit has been installed that demonstrates how fish waste can be used to produce a nutrient system for plants.

Dates to Idol

1/7/09 The forthcoming American Idol Experience attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is now displaying a February 14, 2009 Grand Opening date outside the attraction. It has also been announced that a media event will be held for the attraction two days prior, on February 12, 2009.

A New Style

1/7/09 The Morrocco pavilion has opened a new exhibit entitled “Moroccan Style: The Art of Personal Adornment. The exhibit features jewelry and clothing significant to Moroccan culture and history.

Pre-Flight Construction

1/7/09 Construction has begun for Characters in Flight experience coming to the Downtown Disney Marketplace. This tethered hot air balloon experience will be anchored to a pier that protrudes into Village Lake. Footers for the future pier are currently in process of being installed into the lake bed.

A Pool Retool

1/7/09 The main pools at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa will be closed for refurbishment 1/5/09 – 3/31/09 and 1/5/09 - 1/23/09, respectively. The Contemporary refurbishment is reportedly fairly drastic and will reportedly update the pool area with the new decor and style of the resort. Guests of both resorts will be permitted to use the pool facilities at Disney’s Polynesian resort during the refurbishments.

Construction permits have also been filed to upgrade the Meadow Pool at Disney’s Fort Wilderness and Campground. A permit has been filed with the General description of improvements of, "Upgrade the existing Meadow pool area and add a companion restroom located at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground". A timetable for this upgrade has not been reported at this time.

Swirl is still on the menu, but it does not specify what two flavors ...

Technically that would then be a citrus swirl, which can currently be purchased at the refreshment stand behind the Tikki Room/Carpets of Aladdin . . . :D DS and I split a few of these in addition to the Dole Whips each trip!

They were still serving it on Monday, after they converted from their holiday quick-serve menu back to their usual refreshment stand menu.

Does anyone know if the food at Peco Bill's Cafe is really McDonalds food? I've always wondered about Cosmic Ray's also as the cheeseburgers look pretty darn close to a Quarter Pounder with cheese.

The fixin's bar makes all the difference to me with the mushrooms, fried onions, lettuce and tomato! I must admit that I fill my burger with LOTS of mushrooms and onions. :tasty:

I saw the parade on Friday when it debuted I thought it was pretty good actually. As Figment said there were really only two major float changes but I like what they did with the first float with Mickey and Minnie I also like the new costumes the characters had on they were pretty neat and they also all appear to have different costumes on not just the same blue one they had before.

I also thought the music for the parade was alot better then the previous version.

Overall I thought it was a great improvement over the last parade.

Got back on Monday from a quick 4-day trip to the world...

A couple of things - the Kim Possible game/mission was a nice, pleasant diversion for a while. My wife and I did two missions with our boys (7 and 10) - one in Japan and one in Germany. The Germany mission was fun, the Japan one was ho-hum. All in all, I thought it was fun and worth it - especially watching the reactions on people's faces when "things" are triggered that they have no clue about. That was the best part....

Second - I've never been much of a parade guy, but we saw the debut of the parade on Friday the 23rd and boy was it boring...... A float, dancers, another float, dancers, etc.... The music was not catchy and I just don't get the stand and wave to people on floats thing. The various sets of dancers did the same thing over and over. Boring....

Just my opinion.

Just got back Sunday from 8 day trip:thumbsup:. It was awesome of course. KP game was great, had mission in China and both DD's loved it. We ate plenty of dole-whip, tried to get orange/pineapple but the machine never worked. Parade was nice, new costumes are a nice change, BUT the characters seem like they have to do there dance steps and don't interact with the kids like they used to. :pout:.(they used to wave more at the kids.) Also we miss some of the characters in the Hollywood Studios parade.
