Day 2: Sunday, October 5th
We had 9:00 ADRs for the princess breakfast at Akershus, so we jumped out of bed pretty early. Or, should I say, I jumped out of bed pretty early and had to cajole and poke and plead to get the guys up. DD heard “princess” and pretty much was good to go. I made DD Belle’s blue dress (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2940803719/in/set-72157608026085829/) and she wanted to wear it today. She looked so cute. I made a matching bow for her hair, but she is currently in love with headbands and wanted to wear one of them instead. I have long since learned to choose my battled wisely, so a headband it was. At least it sort of matched!
It was pretty cool getting into the park early, since we were able to move around without any crowds (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941656616/in/set-72157608026085829/). Most people we encountered along the way thought DD was Alice, but she happily corrected them. We encountered our one not-so-great CM at this point. She asked DD if she was Alice or Belle and when DD said Belle, she said, “Well Alice is better!” I think she meant it as a teasing remark, but it came out kind of snotty and for a 4 year old who adores Belle, it was devastating – she felt like she was being told that she wasn’t good enough. She kept bringing it up all day. We got to Akershus a little early and had to wait to check in (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941658578/in/set-72157608026085829/). But once we did, they called our name in just a few minutes. We waited for 2 parties to get photos and then we were in. The princess in the photo session was Belle (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941660334/in/set-72157608026085829/), so DD was over the moon. Belle, of course, recognized her dress right away and gave her lots of attention (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2940807417/in/set-72157608026085829/). She was in her glory. She gave Belle the bracelet she made for her (she wanted to make bracelets for all the princesses before we went, so I helped her – or more like it – she helped me). Belle was so gracious and made her feel so special. We got lots of photos and a wonderful personal autograph and DD practically floated to our table.
The food was delicious! The potatoes were to die for! We ate quite well, met (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2940807761/in/set-72157608026085829/) princesses (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941660518/in/set-72157608026085829/), got photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941660566/in/set-72157608026085829/) and autographs and gave out bracelets. The princesses (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941660692/in/set-72157608026085829/) were all so sweet to DD. Our waitress, Ida, was very nice, and on the way out, she showed DD how to walk like a princess, which she did all week long. Also – all of the princesses recognized her dress as Belle’s and that helped her feel a bit better about the previous comment.
After breakfast, we went right to Soarin. I got us FPs, but the standby line was pretty short so we got in line. This was one that DD was too small for, and leading up to this trip she kept saying that she was afraid to ride it. Luckily, she changed her mind and decided to try it. She held on to me and DH from the time she was seated and as we lifted up. But as soon as the movie started, she LOVED it! She was thrilled to be “flying” and had the biggest smile on her face. As soon as it was over, she wanted to go on again. Luckily, we had out FP which were due shortly, so we took a quick ride on Living with the Land and then back to Soarin. She would have ridden Soarin all day if she could have (me, too).
We got to ride Nemo for the first time, since it opened the day after we left on our last trip. It was pretty cute. The Jellyfish scene is so pretty. The kids were pretty amazed at the last scenes with the characters in the real tank. We caught Turtle Talk next, which was also really cute and very funny. We went to Journey into Your Imagination next, but it was closed, so we checked out Honey I Shrunk the Audience. It was OK, but not our favorite 3D.
Next, DS wanted to head to Test Track and DD surprised us by saying she wanted to try it. I think Soarin had her feeling brave. We grabbed FPs and headed into MouseGears to waste some time. Big, huge mistake. DD saw something she wanted and we told her no. This was not her shining moment. She is usually pretty good about stuff, but the combination of her stubborn-ness, plus the excitement of the trip had her wound up and she let us know of her disapproval…loudly. We took her outside and found a somewhat out of the way spot to talk her down. Eventually, she made the choice to be nice (the other choice was going back to the hotel) and we headed over to Spaceship (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2940808891/in/set-72157608026085829/) Earth (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2940810569/in/set-72157608026085829/). The kids loved the new interactive ending and thought their photos were hilarious. We all laughed at DH’s, since DS’s hand was covering most of his face. We played some of the games and I injured myself for the second day in a row playing that “power” game. I hit my own toe with the heavy “sweeper” thing and knocked my toenail clean off. Ouch!! Like I said – klutz!
Next we headed to TT for our FPs. We got through the pre-show and when we were getting pretty close to getting on, the ride shut down due to rain. DH left to rescue our Akershus photos, which were in the storage basket of the stroller, and the kids and I waited it out. It wasn’t long before the ride was running again and we were on. DS loved it, as usual. DD loved the braking test and had her arms in the air. The speed part scared her a little and she was holding on to me. When it stopped, she started crying a little and I thought, “Uh-oh, I shouldn’t have taken her on”, until she informed me that she was crying because she didn’t want to get off. She loved it.
Next up, we decided to check out Club Cool. The kids loved this. We tried all of the different offerings, including Beverly. I didn’t think it was TOO bad, but it’s not something I would seek out. My favorite was the one from Israel – very refreshing.
By this time, we were all hungry (and DD was asleep) so we headed to World Showcase. DS wanted to try something International, but he kept turning down every thing we saw. And then he would complain about being hungry. He was driving us crazy. We got the entire way around before he found something he wanted - from Chile and Argentina. He liked the beef with chimichurri sauce and the shrimp with cilantro sauce and ate several of each. DD woke up then and started eating, too. Meanwhile, DH and I were tasting wines and beers and snacks from many of the countries. And of course, we stopped off in Mexico for a ride and our traditional sombrero photo (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2940808209/in/set-72157608026085829/). And both kids got some face paint (http://www.flickr.com/photos/66821939@N00/2941661230/in/set-72157608026085829/). I had a mango-gingerita in china and mmmm. After we all ate our fill, we hit a few more rides (TT again – it was a DD and DS favorite) and headed back to the resort. So far, the buses have been pretty quick – yay!
