I posted a few weeks back thinking I might have a possible kidney infection. It turns out that after a cat scan they found I have kidney cysts. I do not know how many or the size, I am going to see the urologist on Thursday, however, I find myself very uncomfortable. I can't say I am really feeling any pain, but I am feeling something on my right side between my kidney and my hip. A heating pad helps immensely.

Has anyone ever had kidney cysts? I'm hoping there is something they can do to just get rid of them, this has been about a month now of just not feeling great in that kidney area.

I'm anxious to see what the urologist has to say.

I hope the urologist has good news for you. Did your regular doctor OR the person who did the cat scan tell you anything about the cysts? I think that is is a good thing that they are just sending you to a uroligist and not a nephrologist (kidney specialist). If it was a nephrologist, it may be something that may be of more concern.
Here's some pixie dust for you!:pixie:

Jeri,

:pixie: for your doctor visit and let us know how it goes. I am pretty familiar with kidneys (although not cysts in particular), so if you have any questions after your appointment, please feel free to PM me!

I hope you feel better soon!

Yes, I 've heard of them...one of the men at our church was having some problems (back pain, etc) and after a series of tests they saw a mass of some kind on one of his kidneys. As you might imagine this scared them to death, as they waited on some secondary tests results. It wasn't cancer, but cysts, which according to him and what his doctor said turned out to be good news from a treatment perspoective...and for his long term health.

Will be praying for you and similarly good news from your docs as well.

I hope you feel better soon. DH has a cyst on his liver. It was actually found by accident. He had an ultrasound because he thought he was having a problem with his gallbladder and they found the cyst (not the cause of his problems). :pixie: coming your way.

It depends on what is causing the cysts, how many there are and how big they are. Most cysts are benign and as long as your kidney function is okay, the doctor may want to just take a "wait and see" approach. If they are causing you a lot of discomfort or other problems, like kidney infections or decreased kidney function, they might recommend surgery. I don't think there are a lot of other options for controlling them.

Hope it went well at the doctor's office today. Let us know how you're doing. :)

Hi Folks,
didn't really get any answers at the doctor's today. Yes I have the cysts in actually both my kidney's but the doctor said they are insignificant and should not be causing me discomfort.

If this is the case, I have no idea why I am feeling the discomfort that I am. He thought it might be muscular. I guess at this point I am going to just keep trudging along, maybe go get a massage next week, and call my regular doctor to touch base with him.

The doctor did not do the cytoscopy today...thank God because he is quite handsome and younger than me, I'm not sure I could go through with it....I haven't had a male doctor since I had my kids, my regular doctor is a male but does nothing with my female parts!

Well, in this case, I'd say insignificant is good!

How is your kidney function? Did they run any blood tests to see if you creatinine and BUN were okay?

So, it was the back pain that sent you to the doctor? Maybe there is another reason for the back pain. I was having terrible lower back pain myself and my OB/GYN said I must have had a cyst that eventually ruptured (because it was cyclical, building in intensity over months, and then stopped). I would think a CAT scan would pick up ovarian cysts but who knows. Just some wild speculation here
