View Full Version : Which musicians/bands have you seen live?

I thought that it would be interesting to see which bands or musical artists that everyone has seen live in concert. Some people say that they like rock, but that encompasses a lot of music.

You don't have to name all of them, especially if you're embarrassed to mention a name. But embarrassments are appreciated.

Just list your own, but if a spouse or friend attended a noteworty concert, then go ahead and mention it. For example, my DH saw Led Zeppelin live at MSG in the late 70's. People were throwing lit M-80's from the upper stands into the crowds below and lighting napkin holders on fire and tossing them into the crowd.

You can put the name of the act, the year (or decade) that you saw them. If you've seen them more than once, you can put the years or just note the number of times. If you want to give a brief review, that's OK too.

I live 15 minutes from a major outdoor venue, so lawn seats really make concerts affordable for me. But now that I've got my DS, we won't be going as often.

OK. Here's my list (probably incomplete):

The Who (4X) - best live band ever
Deep Purple (3X) - pretty good too, including once with the Scorpions and Joe Satriani
Earth, Wind & Fire (2X) - a blast
Ringo Starr & All Star Band (2 or 3X) - this included many other famous artists, including Edgar Winter
Santana (2X)
The Rolling Stones (2X) - don't need to see them again
Allman Brothers (2X) - Ditto
Black Crowes (2006) - Ditto - I think Los Lonely Boys opened - they were good
Madonna (1985) - Virgin tour - Beastie Boys opened and were terrible
U2 (1985) - Excellent live band
INXS (early 90's)
Eagles (1995?)
Duran Duran (2005) - they were great live
CSNY (2006) - excellent concert
John Fogerty w/ Willie Nelson (2006) - loved Willie - Springsteen showed up for a song w/Fogerty - not surprising given where I live
Robert Randolph & his Family Band - they opened for someone in 2006 - they were phenomenal.
Moody Blues (2006) - quite good
Chicago (2005) - pretty good
Taj Mahal w/Los Lobos(2007) - very enjoyable - and baby kicked during the concert
Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer (2007)
Jeff Beck (late 90's?) - I'm sure that I suffered permanent hearing loss from that one.
Paul Anka (2000) - he played at a convention that I attended
James Taylor (2X)
Harry Connick, Jr. (1992?)
Monkees w/The Association and possibly The Turtles or Herman's Hermits (1985 or 1986)

I can't think of any more, but I probably missed a couple.

#1 The King, Elvis Presley with the whole family in Knoxville, Tennesse around 1971.

#1A First Rock concert without the family...Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" complete with snakes and coffins in the mid 70's. I was in the fifth grade and have often wondered just how bad it warped me :mickey:

By the way, while I did not see them in concert around the same time (mid 70s) I actually met the entire band from Aerosmith (not at RnR either:mickey:) and PAul Stanley from Kiss (without makeup)...all benefits of growing up in the tourist mecca of Gatlinburg Tennessee and having friends in the chalet rental business and getting invited to "all the right parties." (You know from the eagles "life in the fastlane")

Its all too funny when I look back on it now...seems like a lifetime ago.

Ian --- I'll see what I can do. We just met him last week (we've only been in our house for a year) and he was telling us all about his band, etc. Anyway, we have a HUGE pile of logs to be split that my DH is going to share with him in the fall. I'll ask him then. Seems like a very nice guy. Funny -- DS18 already new about the band and that he lived on our street. I have never heard of the band before.

Ha ha ... I was just kidding. I don't want you to put yourself out, but it was very nice of you to offer.

I'm not surprised you've never heard of them. They're actually not very well known outside of the punk world. They really have never had more than one or two "hits" (A Walk & 21st Century Digital Boy), but their music is actually pretty accessible to anyone. It's not "hardcore" in the sense that most true punk music is.

Greg Graffin is actually a very interesting guy. He holds a Ph.D. in zoology and writes some very insightful, almost poetic lyrics.

Oh boy. Like some of you there is no way I can get them all. During my high school years I practically lived at concerts. I'm pretty sure I saved most of my tickets in a box somewhere but a bunch from around the year 2000 have completely faded. Maybe it was a change in the ink for ticketmaster or something because tickets from before and after are fine. But, I digress. Here are the ones I can remember:

Bruce Springsteen x2
New version of Guns N' Roses
Paul McCartney
U2
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers x2
Stone Temple Pilots x2
Oasis
Beck
Foo Fighters

Kaiser Chiefs x2
The Cribs
Death Cab for Cutie
Franz Ferdinand
The Killers
Korn
Staind x3 (but I only wanted to see them twice, third time they were part of a festival and I wasn't really a fan anymore. I guess my teen angst days were over)
Crazytown
P.O.D.
Joan Jett
*//\\// SYNC x2
Slayer x2
Moby
Shadows Fall x2
In Flames
Peter Frampton (4th of July show, sounded bad, it was very hot, we left to play mini golf and came back for fireworks.)
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
A.F.I.
Michael Buble
Tom Jones x2
And the most recent one was the American Idols Tour.

Some of these were festivals so I haven't seen all of them separately.

And these were all before I was 21, and I know I'm missing some. If I included the last 28 years, the list would be out of control.

But the one that got away, I turned down a chance to go see Elvis.

Can I count David Cook if I saw him in Elementary School? Or Vedera while they were still high school kids?
