Having never been on a cruise or to the Bahamas....what do you all recommend trying (for 2 adults) in Nassau as this is where we will be stopping on our 4-day cruise. Aslo, when do you book a reservation for Palo? Can you do it before you sail or do you do it when you board?

Although Nassau is not one of my personal favorites, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy for the relatively short time you'll be there.

One of the biggest draws is the Atlantis resort, prominently visible from the dock, but farther away than it looks. They have a huge aquarium, casino, and beach area. It is definitely pricey.

We did do one snorkeling excursion that was very good; after leaving the ship, you board a large catamaran for about a half-hour cruise to a beautiful coral reef where we snorkeled for about an hour.

If you haven't already done it, I'd strongly recommend you hop on the DCL website and flip through all the info on the "Ports of Call" pages. Additionally, there will be a LOT of info available once you are onboard.

As for Palo, first off: ABSOLUTELY DO NOT MISS A DINNER AT PALO!! :tasty: You can book online (I misplaced exactly how far in advance you can do this - sorry) or as soon as you board the ship. They set up a table in one of the lounges to take ressies - - first come, first served!

If it is your first time cruising, you can make a Palo reservation for brunch or dinner at 75 days out from the day of your sailing. Hope that helps!

6 years ago I would have told you to write off Nassau completely! It was filthy, the people were rude, and every where you went someone was trying to sell you stuff...

I was just there in June 2007, and boy howdy did the Bahamaian Travel Committe (or whatever their called) clean that place up!

There's a great market place right when you get off the boat, and also a good main drag near the hard rock nassau that's got all kin ds of interesting shops.

even if you get off the boat for 45 minutes and take a quick stroll, its a decent place now

What to do?
Last time I took the cruise that stopped in Nassau, I did a Scuba Dive trip which was amazing there! Also I have done the ATLANTIS Hotel Excursion. Not certain if they still do that but if they do... go for it!@ Very Very Cool!
What's so cool about visiting another hotel you ask. Check out <snip> and you will see.

We booked a day at the Comfort Suites which is next door to the Atlantis. It is also owned by the same company that owns the Atlantis so we get to use the Atlantis water park and all of their facilities. It was only $150 before taxes.
