After polling which decade had the best music a couple weeks ago I'm now curious to see who your favorite musical group/artist/performers are. I think it might be fun to see the differing opinions and ranges of music. So who would be your top ten?

Mine would be in no particular order:

The Doors
U2
Guns N Roses
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
Def Leppard
The Police
The Beach Boys
Motley Crue
The Eagles

(honorable mention ~ Journey, Buddy Holly, Poison, Kenny Loggins, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Michael Jackson before he went wacko)

Aerosmith
AC/DC
Kiss

And I still enjoy listening to them. But I find myself mostly listening to Broadway shows, with my favorite singers being...

Adam Pascal

And very honorable mention goes to Disneyland's Billy Hill and the Hillbillies. Whenever I need to self medicate with music, they always cheer me up!

10 Musical Artists is what the original poster asked for. Apparently people have a problem counting to 10, and are listing bands rather than artists.

Is a musical artist someone who sings, writes and performs, or is it ok to include singers who don't write, or music writers who don't sing?

Ok, obviously I must have too much time on my hands today, and I'm putting too much thought into this.

I'll do my best, here's 10 musical artists in no particular order --

1 - Brian Wilson
2 - John Lennon
3 - Paul McCartney
4 - Ozzy Osbourne
5 - Jimi Hendrix
6 - Frank Sinatra
7 - Dean Martin
8 - Elvis Presley
9 - Richard Sherman
10 - Robert Sherman

The OP himself listed bands.

Where I come from the term "musical artist" means bands, singers, musicians, song writers, lyricists.

It's all good.... why be picky ?? :D

I thought I cleared that up in the above paragraph, sorry it was vague. I actually tried to edit the title to include group but it wouldn't let me.

- Mozart
- JS Bach
- WS Gilbert & Sullivan
- Saint-Saens
- Stephen Sondhiem
- David Bowie
- Neil Young
- Bob Dylan
- The Cure/Robert Smith
- Hmmmmm, difficult. Candidates would include Prince, Peter Gabriel, Morrisey/The Smiths and, yes, The Beatles. Have to go with the Beatles actually, primarily due to George.

EDIT: Just seen the mention for John Williams and it's making me want to fit Ennio Morrocone in somewhere. Alas , I will resist.

Yeah, I have to put them on my list, too. I'm still pondering the rest of my list after the obvious number one (The Beatles) but Duran Duran is on it.
