We have been considering buying a DVC resale for some time but now we have a question about use year and banking points. Our plan is to get half the points we need for a trip, bank one years points and then only take a trip to WDW every other year. We know that all the points can be banked up to 8 months after your use year month. Our question is about how a December Use Year works. From what I have read, researched, and heard, your UY is the month that Disney actually puts your points into your account for use and then you have 12 months to use them or 8 months to bank them. If that is true, '08 points with a Dec. UY if banked could be used in '10? Am I thinking this through right? (you could use the points from Dec. '08 - Dec. '09, or bank them by Aug. '09 to use from Dec. '09 - Dec. '10) We aren't planning on another trip until May - June '10. Please help us understand this better. My mom is very much a control freak and needs to know all the answers and how this will work before we buy a resale.

You are thinking about this correctly. When DVC talks about use year, they usually talk about the use year period. Mine begins in June, so we talk about it in terms of the 08-09 user year, or the 09-10 use year.

Sounds like you have it right!
When you bank the 2008 points into 2009, you have the whole UY2009 (until the 2010 points are credited) to use the banked points.

Just to clarify, a December use year starts on December 1 and ends on November 30. So, if you bank your December 2008 points before August 1, 2009, they can be used for a stay anytime between December 1, 2009 and November 30, 2010.
