Dance Clubs To Be Replaced With More Restaurants, Stores
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Major changes are in the works for the Pleasure Island portion of Downtown Disney.
The nightclubs at Pleasure Island will be closed and replaced with more family-friendly dining and shopping options, Disney officials said.
The entertainment district has been a popular destination for young adults for nearly 20 years, but Disney officials said the renovation was requested by its customers. They claimed the future changes will add to the excitement of Downtown Disney, not diminish it.
"I kind of like the idea of having more of a family-oriented something," said Eunice Hacsunda, a Disney patron. "You get more kids, more family stuff, and I think you attract more people that way."
However, other visitors disagreed, saying the loss of Disney's adult nightlife will put a damper on the Pleasure Island experience.
"[There's] less of the nightclub atmosphere because everything's shut down," said Corrine Dora. "You're walking past it, seeing closed doors, and that's kind of boring."
The Pleasure Island nightclubs will be closed permanently on Sept. 27.
