Porthole Cabins

We cruised with DCL in 2005 and were fortunate to be able to stay in a verandah cabin. :thumbsup: Now I'm a little spoiled.:secret:
In pricing cruises for 2009, we may have to downgrade to an ocean view.
Can someone tell me about the porthole cabins?:)

I've gotten to sail with both, and while I prefer the verandah, the porthole staterooms are nice. Just a little smaller...

During our first cruise, we were in a Cat 6; for our second, we were in a Cat 9 on Deck 2. While I did miss the verandah (I spent more time in our stateroom because I was not feeling well at all), it was still nice and we had an acceptable view of the ocean. I'll post some pictures later on today so you can see.

We just got back from our 4 day cruise with a Nav verandah:cloud9:. Last time we cruised was a week with a deluxe ocean view (cat 9). We spent some time on our verandah this time, but not much. It was lovely, but we enjoyed our time on the deck much more. We had the "hidden" deck 7 overlook just about 20 feet from our room, and spent time there, plus on the upper decks. It was fun at night to watch storms off in the distance, and to just walk out in our PJs when we pulled into port, but felt like for the 4 day, it wasn't as worth it as we thought.

We rebooked a 7 day while on the cruise for the exact same time next year. It is the expensive season, plus its a Tortola cruise, so we opted for a deluxe oceanview (porthole) room in a cat 8 (the upper floors). We enjoyed being on the upper floors more than the lowers, but that is a personal choice. The lower floors were great, but since we were going to spend more time on the upper decks for fun, we wanted to be closer to that!

As for size, the rooms are the same, it only seems bigger with the verandah. In fact, my mother felt like the nav room was smaller than the oceanview we had a year an a half ago, but that was just her!

I don't think you'll be disappointed... you're on a cruise!

For reference, these were all taken in Cabin 2548, a Cat. 9 on Deck 2.
