1st of all, I don't believe that there really are "Shadow People"... gremlins, leprechauns, yeti's, gryphons, and maybe even that strange Oogo Pogo thing (or whatever you call it), but shadow people sounds more like a sure sign of paranoia.
2nd, since we know Genie doesn't drink or do anything like that, maybe his computer had been dipping into the green tea or something and was seeing things in triplicate.
