View Full Version : Summer flight fares -- what's everyone paying?

Hi all,

So what's everyone paying to get to Orlando this summer? Last summer I booked SW from Hartford to Tampa (same fare to Orlando available) for $475 for 4 people! Somehow I doubt that I will be hearing of any fares like that this summer....!

I'm trying to budget for next year's August trip but it looks rather impossible to predict what prices will be next year...

I don't know about this year or next either, but my trip may overlap yours to POFQ in August 2009!

I already have my plane tickets for this summer; they are NYC to Seattle and they were around $900 for two round trip tickets. They were not the absolute cheapest that I found, but I wanted direct flights.

I booked back in Feb. I think. We're flying SWA from RDU to MCO for $168 p/p for flights in mid-June. I've now got to purchase 2 rt from RDU to MCO for end August and the cheapest I've found so far is roughly $200p/p. I've had worse rates, but I've had much better also.

Mid June 2008 from EWR (Newark) to MCO for $150 or so per person. Of course we booked earlier in the year so YMMV.

For our September trip, we are paying $630 for 3 people on SW. The same flights in December 2007 cost us $475. :plane:

We are flying from Philly to Orlando in Sept and our tix were 208 per person rt.

This week I purchased tickets for Nov. and it was 696.00 for 3 of us RT.

Both trips are direct flights and both are on Airtran .

I have to admit.....this is the FIRST time I have ever contemplated on driving to Orlando instead of flying. It takes 1 1/2 hours to fly from Nashville, but takes 12 hours to drive.

Hhhmmm...which is cheaper......

Hi, I've booked for return trips from LAX to MCO in late August. 2 adults and 2 children at AUD$3000. Don't know if that helps, but just in case..... :mickey:

We just paid $398 last week, rountrip from Long Island to MCO for my husband and I. We are flying down on SW on June 2nd.

We usually pay $69 or even $59 when we fly down in September or December. This was a little higher but not terrible.

I just double checked Southwest just now. The same flights are now $147 each way. I am glad we booked when we did!

We just booked two weeks ago for a quick trip (last minute) with some friends at the end of July and got $360 rt for me and DH from PHilly to MCO on Southwest. I was pretty happy with that considering the gas nightmare:thumbsup:

Hi Cathy - We are going next weekend and booked for just about $174 per person (that's including tax). We are finding that the ding fares are more specific (ie like a specific flight on a specific day). We were not able to get a ding fare for the dates we are going. When the fares that we choose came up DH said to take them thinking we would not get anything better. He was right and I am glad we did not wait. I have gottend some incredible low fares on SW over the years but I am thinking that anything around $200 rt will be good for the coming year. Good luck! :mickey:

I booked an early June trip to Ft Myers about 2 months ago for my daughter and I and paid $300 RT for both. I am waiting and searching daily for our trip to Orlando in Mid August and the cheapest I have seen is $715 RT for 3. Not too bad, but I have had better. I will only fly SW or Continental, so I am waiting for the right flight and the right fare. Hope that exists!!!

We bought SWA from Manchester, NH to Orlando for the last week of August when they were first released in April. The prices were about the same from Providence as well. About $200rt pp. Hope this helps. :)

We've been driving down lately, and were starting to prefer that to driving. But w/ the gas crisis, I'm starting to wish we had booked flights. I'm sure we won't find anything affordable now. Plus, I have no clue how to find cheap fares online. :(

We booked in January from Chicago O'Hare to Orlando via United (1st flight out, last flight back) for July 19 outbound/August 2nd return & paid $279 RT/person. Man am I glad I purchased those tix then, because now the same flights are $786 per person! :(

I booked last month as soon as SWA released fares for September and got tickets from RDU to MCO for $167 pp; total for our family of 4 is $668. The fares have since gone up to $736 for the same tickets. Glad I got them when I did!

I haven't booked yet for our Sept. trip, and I'm getting nervous about it.

Yesterday I could have booked for $209 per person, roundtrip, from KC to Orlando. That's not too bad, but it's still way higher than I've had to pay in the past.

We're actually considering going the night before because in some cases it's working out a little less expensive.

I keep wondering though, if few people are traveling anywhere this year, and with Sept being a slower travel month, I wonder if there could end up being some "incentive" fares when we get closer to Sept. I know, it's reall a long shot.

We paid $159/pp RT (taxes included) for a late August flight from Detroit to Orlando on Northwest (non-stop). We were pretty pleased. You can't beat $636 to fly 2 adults and 2 kids (charged as adults) RT to FL....

Boy...I'm feeling really ripped off.

I paid $255 (round trip, taxes, security fees etc) from San Antonio to MCO (Orlando) July 25-Aug 3 2008. SOUTHWEST

I haven't seen anything cheaper. Ding doesn't work well for me because it doesn't make it through the firewall at work. By the time I get home it's too late. They never seem to ding where I want to go and when ANYWAY.

My October trip $216 (round trip, taxes and security fees etc) from San Antonio to MCO October 8-13. SOUTHWEST

We just booked on Tuesday for our October trip - hoping to get a decent fare before they inevitably go up. We got on Southwest from Buffalo, NY to MCO for $250pp roundtrip. 3 years ago we had amazing luck also on SW and got $125pp roundtrip. This may be our last trip for many years:(

Get this......my trip is in December. SW hasn't released those dates yet. So, I went to a few travel sites (Travelocity, Yahoo Travel, etc) and put in my dates.

Ready........$1500.00 for 2 adults, 1 child RT from Nashville to Orlando.

Wow

I'm hoping SW will be better when they release the dates.

Normally we book our airfare early, but because we didn't think we'd be going this year so we only booked 2 weeks ago. I ended up using 20,000 miles on a companion ticket and got the other 3 tickets for a total of $701.

When we book in January or February for late October (our schools are off for 3 days at the end of the month) we pay about $200 per person so this is higher, but we were late in booking.

We also live in CT and I've found that Wechester Cty Airport has been priced lower than Bradley recently. I caught an internet sale back in February on Airtran departing 6/30 for $118/rt direct flights out of Westchester, while the best I could find out of Bradley was $298 r/t. Hope that helps :mickey:

For 4 of us from Syracuse to Orlando on Jet Blue for October '08, it was around $1100. Forget the exact price; but in that price range.

I paid $271 per ticket, Hartford to Orlando in mid-October. There was a $250 flight available but I didn't like the times so I chose the more expensive flight....I figured for $60 more (3 tickets) it would be worth the extra money to get the times we want...ofcourse I'll still keep looking in case anything better comes along.

Wow you all have gotten such good deals!!! I have been watching fares for our dates in Oct. for 2 months and can't find anything under $300 per person round trip. I am going to keep watching and waiting for a deal.:fingers:

Flights from Oregon have been all over the board. Up and down daily. I bought some Delta miles and use the rest I had to get 2 Alaska tickets from Medford to Orlando for about $250 per. The lowest I have seen out of Portland (3 1/2 hours away) on any airline has been $260. To buy the Akaska tickets I got would be anywhere from $400 to $600. Pretty happy with the deal I got and thank god I don't have to look anymore. It was making me crazy.

I can't get the Ding's at work either. Doesn't really matter....when we wanted one for our May trip, the days never worked out. That flight would have cost us almost $700 R/T for the two of us.

I have checked on SWA flights for our October trip many times, but I can't get anything cheaper than around $616 R/T for the two of us (PHL-MCO), and after paying $49 - $79 each way for the past few years, I'm not about to start paying $308pp R/T. These were non-stop flights, and they no longer offer the 7:00am flight out of PHL---we'd have to take the 9:00am flight. We only do non-stop. Flights with one stop only save us about $40 total.

We drove in May, and had a wonderful time. With gas, rooms and food, it cost us no more to drive than to fly (just 2 of us). Didn't have to worry about how we packed, what we packed, and what we bought (didn't have to ship anything home). We made it part of the vacation, and really enjoyed the time together. :cloud9:

We booked ours for our August/September trip a few weeks ago for 3 of us at approx. $200 pp round trip from St. Louis on Southwest. This is our 4th year in a row, and airfare has steadily increased each year. The first year we were able to get all 3 of us round trip for under $400. Now it is over $600. We could have held out and hoped for a little lower fares the closer we get to our trip, but the high gas prices really have me spooked.....:scared:
