Just coming on here to Intercot to let all the wonderful people here know that today, I was part of the company "restructuring" or what ever bull they were laying out to people... So, now, I join the million of other Americans who no longer has employment... The place I worked for was pure torture so this is really a blessing in disguise... Now the job hunt begin in earnest... (Disney anyone????)

Thanks for listening and have a magical day.... Despite being laid off, I know I still will....

You will be better off. You were miserable right? My husband was in the same situation 3 years ago and it turned out to be the BEST thing to happen to him AND our family. He's not miserable when he comes home.

Work with the Mouse? Sounds like a plan to me!

While it can be quite nerve-wracking, it sounds like this will provide you with a new opportunity to find a position you like better.

Not many people would say getting laid off is great news, but, I am actually taking it as great news... An opportunity for a better job, possibly more money, and going somewhere that I may actually be happy...

I was in the same position you are about five years ago - I was so relieved when it was over that I was woo-hoo-ing all the way home (in between the tears, of course). It really was a true blessing in disguise. Decide where you want the world to take you next, and go for it. Kudos to you for keeping your chin (and positive thoughts) up! :mickey:

Carol, believe me, my chin is up... No tears flowing from these eyes... This truly is a blessing in disguise... And trust me when I say I was extremely miserable....

Since I have some time off now, I am going to work full time on my movie script I been trying to write.. Who knows... Hollywood may be calling... (no such luck lol)....

Sorry to hear that you are temporarily out of an income but glad to hear that you can go to work looking for other employment full time! If you were that miserable at this place then it can only be for the best in the long run.

I was in Human Resources for about 15 years and would occasionally have to let someone go who just didn't fit in well at the company. Since I live in a small town I would run into some of those former employees around town and on two different occasions I had people actually thank me for firing them because they went on to other companies where they did fit in and were so much happier! Get up every morning at a regular time and make finding new employment your full time job and in no time you will land something that works for you!

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Even though you said that you'd been unhappy, it is still a shock when it happens. I lost my job at the beginning of April. I am glad that you have such a positive attitude about getting back into the job market!!! Looking for a new job is a full time job in and of itself. I'd love to be a cast member at Disney... and you are much more the expert than I am so you would be more qualified! Take some time (a day or two) to do something for yourself before you buckle down to the job search. Best of luck to you.

If memory serves you were contemplating leaving a few months back due to a poor manager. Based on that alone it didn't sound like a company you wanted to vest your entire future in and this may be a blessing in disguise.

Good luck on the job search, hopefully you can find that perfect fit now.

Your memory serves you well... I hated my supervisor... Yes, I did go through a lot of hassel with her... I think I was the only one in my department, which leads me to think it was more personal that anything.. But prove it...

I want to thank everyone for their warm wishes...

I'm sorry about you losing your job. I lost mine at the begining of April and I had the same attitude you do. I didn't shed one tear and I knew that it will probably be the best thing that ever happened to me. I know it will work out well for you too! If you were unhappy then you are better off not being there, even if you have to be behind on bills for awhile.

Maybe we can go work for the mouse together! I moved into my parents house for the summer to save $$ but I have a feeling when I return to FL I be making a trip to the casting center! haha

Well here I am, a week after losing my job, and nothing new on the horizon.... Resume is up on Career Builders, Hot Jobs, and Monster... No calls or emails... Also tried to find out if the company was in violation of law when they didn't give us 60 days notice, and they aren't... I figured they would go the cheap way out... I really don't know what I am going to do... I am trying to keep my head up, but, I am very discouraged with no calls or emails for any interviews...

It sounds like you are so incredibally strong. The same thing happened to me about 5 years ago, corporate restructuring. Looking back, I was one of the lucky ones. I was one of about 10 who received any severance pkg. out of about 125 total. It allowed me the opportunity to go back to school not once, but twice. I too hated my boss as well as the secretary that worked for us. That's another story as she is also related to Lucifer.

But things will turn up. They gave you the lemons, I'm sending you the tequilla. You're too strong to let this unexpected opportunity get away. Good luck!!!

I'm so sorry you lost your job - I wish you could send some of your positive attitude my way! I kind of feel like a deer in the headlights at the moment - scared of the loss of income, not sure what to do next, etc. Best of luck with the interview on Tuesday! But, don't be discouraged about not hearing from people quickly - my experience in HR and recruiting can confirm that companies move slowly - a lot more slowly than you might think. And my resume has been up for a week too and the only bite I got was some kind of money scam from Australia! :( Unfortunately, I was hopeful (too hopeful) for a job in our school district as an Admin, that I was told I was a candidate for, but since I know another woman got called 2 days ago for an interview, and I didn't, I'm guessing that's not going to pan out either! :( It's definitely not easy but the right opportunity will come your way! Keep us posted on the interview!

I quit my job about two weeks ago. I tucked my tail between my legs, went back to my old company and they welcomed me with open arms. I feel so lucky. The company is five miles from my door. Gas savings right there. All the old gang is still there. Got hugs and kisses from everyone. So the future is looking brighter. Now I can plan another Disney trip.

Good luck to all, who are searching for new employment.

Well, I had the interview... Only met with one of the supervisors, not with both... I was told, in the middle of the interview, the other person was not in... Anyway, I think the interview went well... I had the experience they are looking for... Only thing that scares me is they didn't offer me the job yet, nor did they talk salary.... The woman said they had other people to interview (Never a good sign), and that I was one of the first they brought in since I had experience... She said they want to fill the position by the end of the month, and I will hear from them by then... I hope I get the job... The office was really nice, quiet, not rowdy.... Seems like everyone has their own cubicle, not out in the open like other offices... I like that.... Please keep sending that pixie dust until I officially hear something... Hopefully, I hear good news..

I think you work for the same place I'm stuck at now. Pretty bad when you're actually HOPING to be laid off...but hey, I can dream, can't I?

I love how Dane Cook described the DMV....now THAT really sums this place up.

Don't stress. We just came off of a holiday week and lots of people had vacations. We're hiring at my place! Want to move to Pittsburgh? We have a pretty good sports history. A good hockey team, a good football team. And I hear the baseball stadium is nice (do we have a baseball team?).

The opportunities will come.

We are in June... I go in October... That is 120 days from now... I better be employed by then... The only other problem I see is no job letting me take those two weeks off, this late in the year...

Don't worry about this part, at least. My husband started a job in the middle of July last year. We had already scheduled a trip for October (to celebrate his new job.) He was very up front about having vacation plans when he started and he got the time off. He even got paid.

I agree with you that searching for jobs has been a bit depressing. I feel like I've put my resume out there quite a bit and have been on 7 interviews but still no job offers. My grad school adviser told me that I had to try to do one or two things for myself with the unexpected time off... I hope there is something that you can do while you're job hunting to relieve the stress a little.

There are a few things I do... I sit online, look at Monster, Hot Jobs, Career Builders, even Disney's careers site.. LOL...

I entertain myself with the internet, movies, video games... I haven't really gone out much since the weather has gotten really hot and gas prices are soaring.. I have gone to the movies a few times...

Have you gotten any bizarre job recommendations from Career Builder? I'm an engineer and I have had them suggest some really odd jobs, including:
-busboy at a local casino (next to a prison!)
-helicopter design specialist
-crane operator (I'm 5' tall and terrified of heights!)
My Career Builder e mail in the morning is one source of entertainment.

I am at a complete loss for what I should start doing now... I mean, no one wants to call me at all...

Trust me, I know how hard it is and how disheartening it can be. One thought - have you had anybody review your resume for you? I've read the average prospective employer scans your resume for about 45 seconds, and that's it. So, it needs to be strong, with key skills that jump out at them. I had just applied for an admin position within our school district and the guy who interviewed me said he didn't know I was the President of the PA at my son's school until someone mentioned it - but, it was actually on my resume, at the bottom. But, he never read that far down. (not that it mattered, I didn't get the job, though I desperately wanted it! :( :( :() But, I had the principal at my son's school go over my resume and I ended up really revamping the whole thing and I'm hoping that helps. It starts off with a 1 line objective, then a Summary of Qualifications, which is just a few bullet points, but includes my computer skills, which is definitely one of my key strengths, then it goes into my job experience.

Anyway, just a thought, as a strong resume really makes a difference!

DizneyFreak2002
06-16-2008, 02:52 PM
You know Jen, I never thought of that... I used the same resume a few times and got calls... So I figured the resume was decent enough.. I chalked it up to a bad economy and a slow down starting now that it is the summer....

Weird thing happened today... I received a call from a place in Florida.. I never even sent my resume to anywhere in Florida.. LOL... Maybe it is a sign?? A calling?? LOL...
