Hello all... I don't normally post non-Disney topics, but I'm feeling really down this morning and I know you guys will help pick me up.

The company that I work for started lay-offs on Friday. We're looking at losing approximately 450 people. So far, they've notified about 225 and are evidently doing the rest today.

I'm feeling really sad and a little lost seeing people that I've worked with for years escorted out of the building by security. There've been a lot of tears at the office since Friday and no one really knows how to deal with it.

Please keep all of the employees that have been let go in your thoughts and send some pixie dust towards Knoxville. I have the feeling that this is just the beginning. :crying:

Oh, no, Rachel, I am so sorry, been through that and it stinks. Anyone who thinks we aren't in a recession is nuts, it is really not good right now. A lot of our neighbors are going through this, too and a few here. I think it shows your character with your true concern for so many. How are you doing through this? Will your position keep?

They've already cut about 20% from my department, so it looks like those of us who are left will be sticking around for awhile longer.

The thing that's really awful is that they don't really seem to be taking seniority into account. They've kept some people with less than 2 years and let others go who have 5+ years with the company. Nobody can predict who's going to be let go. :(

Sending :pixie: to keep your job secure and help with your spirits. My sister used to live in Gatlinburg so I've been to and through Knoxville many times.

Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this... I'm glad to know you're most likely safe, but it's still hard to watch your friends and co-workers struggle. My SiL and her DH went through this the past few years at Ford (they survived, so far...) and it was very hard. Sending lots of :pixie: your way, and a  for those moments it's really hard. We'll be thinking of you!

:pixie: headed to Knoxville!

Rachel, a lot of times in lay-offs they will let the people with more seniority go as they typically make more money than the people that haven't been there as long.

It's a horrible thing to be a part of -- and I am sure there is a certain amount of guilt when you survive the cut! Just know that I am thinking of you and hope that things settle down soon. :pixie:

So sorry to hear about this... it is so hard to so your co workers go without even a chance to say goodbye! Sending pixie dust to everyone that you work with. Not only are layoffs bad for the people laid off but it really kills morale for the people left behind.

I feel enormously guilty! I know in my head that it's not my fault that I still have a job and they don't, but emotionally it's a little harder to convince myself.

The good news is that it looks like they are done for the time being. They're going to begin restructuring management this coming week, but that shouldn't affect me... I'm not that far up the chain of command. I think this is the only time in my life I've been glad to not be in charge!

:pixie: for you coworkers and to ease your guilt! That must be really hard to watch. I hope things get better for everyone soon.

Rachel, I'm so sorry that you and your colleagues find yourselves in this situation. I've been there twice and it's not fun at all.

:pixie: to all of you!
