We live just south of Pittsburgh, and yesterday I took DD to the local library for storytime. On the way, we pass 5 gas stations. The price for a gallon of regular ranged from $3.55 - $3.65. On our way home from the library an hour later, one of the stations had risen to $3.78. Luckily, the one that was $3.55 still had gas at that price and I stopped there.

Later in the day I had a Dr. appointment, and as I was coming home, the station that I got gas at earlier was up to $3.61 and the others were up to $3.75.

Sorry for rambling, but it seems like gas just keeps going up and up with no end in sight. I was just curious what the prices were like in other areas.

I'm on the border of MA/CT, and surrounded by several Western MA towns. The average seems to be 3.80 here, with some higher and some lower.

Metro Detroit is up around $3.85-$3.90...there are a few stations that have actually hit the $4.00 mark...

I haven't filled up since last week so I'm sure it's more expensive now. I believe it was $3.78. And that was the credit price... they really got me on that. I am so used to just pulling up and swiping my card that I didn't even see the sign till I was done pumping. Gas was 7 cents MORE expensive using your credit card as opposed to cash. This station has never done that before. I think from now on I'm filling up in NJ.

The cheapest that I have seen is $3.81 in San Diego. Most people are paying around $4.00 now.

In our area gas went up 10 cents in one day to $3.88. However I can still go north an hour or south an hour and it is hovering between S3.50 and $3.60.

Looking at my last receipt...

5/6/08 - Hess - Perth Amboy, NJ

$3.41 9/10

Seems like NJ is the place to fill up. And, you don't have to get out of your car or have your hands smell like gas.

Gettysburg Pa its about 3.79 a gallon...

BUT I go home to New Jersey tomorrow and its back down to 3.45 ish for me :) and i don't have to get out of my darn car to pump it. :D

I paid $3.89 yesterday for premium (93 octane). I didn't pay attention to how much the other grades were.

BTW, are stations starting to charge more for credit again? I pay at the pump, and the stations I go to still have one price, but I've been hearing about cash/credit prices again.

(I now pay more for cas each month than my car payment is. And no my car is not paid for.)

It's $3.73 today where I work near Boston, and $3.67 at home outside of Worcester.

Most of what I've seen lately in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas is 3.90 to 3.95 ... I buy at Coscto alot, and even that was 3.83 or so.

My wife's car we bought the end of last year get much better gas mileage then my old SUV, which I'm driving less and less. I'm trying to figure out what to replace it with later this year ... I still need the space of an SUV, so I'm looking at hybrids SUVs and smaller ones then I was first looking at buying.

I paid yesterday morning, $3.69, and later that morning saw prices as low as $3.54. By the time I returned home, I was back to 1/2 tank and saw another station on my way home for 3.54 so I stopped. They did say though that they were trying to raise their prices, but were too busy to do it right then. I didn't allow them a break until I finished...

We are paying about 3.68 per gallon in St. Louis, MO. I just traded in my crossover in today for a more fuel efficient car. It is getting pretty silly.

Someone made the comment about us only paying about half of what the EU pays, yes it is not as expensive as EU, but they have better public transportation than we do. (That is in most areas anyway.) If here in MO we had better public transportation that was available in all areas, I certainly would not be buying as much gasoline.

$3.54 at all the gas stations in town, except Sams Club where it's $3.49.

In my old hometown in CA, it's $3.91-3.99.

Glad I moved!

Personally, I think part of the reason why the EU and UK gas prices are $6-8 per gallon is because the dollar is worth less. I think the UK is only paying 3-4 pounds per gallon, but that translates to 6-8 dollars. I might be wrong...

I was in Fayetteville, NC yesterday and the gas was about 3.73 during the day. This morning on my drive back to SC (around 5 am) the same stations had gas at $3.61.

Not sure if the price lowers overnight but I might have to make some midnight runs to the 24-hr stations.

There was mention of EU paying much more, that is true. The problem is that most places in the EU are easily traversed by walking or public transit where as almost all of the US is reliant on their cars. I think it should hopefully spark more interest and need for us to get better city planning to accommodate walking and transit. FYI I pay $3.75 in Columbus, a very car necessary city. :(

You should consider the Honda CR-V. I have a 2007 one (the new redesign) that I got last year and it gets better mileage than my old 2000 CR-V even. The highway mileage is around 30mpg. The city is around 23-24mpg, which is good for an SUV. What I love about it the most is the ABUNDANT storage space and ample room in the backseat for 3 passengers (or two huge toddler carseats). ;) The ride is very car-like as well. It's a great redesign.

From what I have read, I would have to agree.

The fact the dollar is worth less it one of the reasons the price of the barrel has gone up - as the dollar has dropped, the barrel cost has increased.

My DSIL asked me the other day how much it cost to fill my (Tahoe) tank. I had to tell her I really had no idea. When the pump hits $75 it shuts off. My philosophy is if $75 doesn't fill it, it doesn't need filled!!!

In looking for a new job recently, the cost of getting to work was more important that the pay of the job itself. I finally turned down a federal medical center and 2 large university hospitals to work at a small local hospital in our "no-where" town. But it's literally 1.5 miles from my home. That said, I'm also going to buy a bicycle. With gas this morning at 3.99-4.11/gallon, it's crazy. Almost like you have to work to pay for the gas to go to work. How ridiculous is that?

I'm in New Jersey, which has some of the lowest prices in the country, due to the low gas taxes, so I can imagine that it's higher most other places. Regular gas here is an average of $3.80, while diesel is about $4.50. You know when gas prices are high when you fill up your compact car (with diesel) and it costs almost $50. Jeesh. Thankfully, my car averages 42 mpg.

Here in our town of about 15,000 people the price has been above $4.20 for a month or more. This is especially frustrating because of the pricing games we see being played.

I live in a community that has historically been an economic oasis in the middle of a relatively poor rural area of southern Indiana. We have about 15-20 gas stations in our town which are owned by about 7 different companies. Then about 30 miles north of here is a town of only about 1000 people that has two gas stations both of which are owned by the same company. That same company also owns 4 stations here in my town so you would expect the price at the pump to be nearly the same at their stations here and in the other town. But no, instead they are still below $4.00 in the other community.

Last week I was in a local restaurant and the owner of these stations was confronted by a rather angry individual about why the difference in price. The owner said that it cost him more to transport the fuel to our community from his supply depot. However when he was confronted about the fact that the supply depot is only about 50 miles south of our town and about 80 miles south of the other town the station owner could only stammer and run out of the restaurant as fast as he could.

While this incident hasn't made any difference in price word has gone around town and it does appear that fewer people are patronizing that particular chain.

What happend to .99 a gallon? I guess we will never see that again...:(

When I started driving gas was normally in the .35 to .40 a gallon range and if a good old fashioned gas war broke out between a couple of gas stations you could actually have occasions where it dropped to as little as a dime a gallon! Granted, it didn't get that low very often but it did happen on occasion!

My monthly transportation cost: $45.00 (I take the bus)

I would love to have a bus system where I live but the community is just too small and too rural to support one!

Gas prices went up a lot while I was in Florida - both there and at home. We are somewhere around the $10.45 a gallon mark over here. I know my car does over 40 miles a gallon but it is still hurting. Now I live in a village miles from anywhere (in UK terms - not as bad as US!) it's getting to be a big part of our budget.
