DH and I were watching Disney Splurg the other night and being the wonderful hubby he is he suggested we go to WDW by ourselves for a long weekend for our 10 year anniversay. Now it won't be until Sept. of 2009, but we've been talking about different things to do or places to go a good bit lately. We have decided that we aren't going to go anywhere for a whole week to celebrate, just a long weekend (3-4 nights) will do. All that being said, DH is interested in staying at GF. This is not a resort we have ever considered staying at on any of our WDW vacations. Nor is it a place that we have ever said we'd like to stay at one day, just not our taste, especially when traveling with our children. DH thinks it is the best place for us to stay for this occasion because a lot of things we'd like to do are located right at the resort; the spa, Victoria and Albert's, maybe a fireworks cruise. So my question is, does anyone think the price of this resort is worth it for a 10 year wedding anniversary? We didn't have a really big honeymoon, so we don't mind splurging for this if it is worth it. So what do you all think? Is the Grand Floridian the best place to stay for a special, romantic, adult only getaway?

Sounds great! I can't think of a better place to stay for such an occasion. If you can afford it, I say do it!

Don't forget to check out Romance @ Walt Disney World (http://intercot.com/infocentral/adults/romance.asp)

Also, I would highly recommed getting the bride & groom mickey/minnie hats. CMs love to share your special event with you and will sometimes go out of their way to help make it special for you.

I think the GF is a wonderful spot for any occasion if it suits your taste.

I just have to note - don't expect to not see children. It's Disney world after all. Each time we've stayed there, it was with our boisterous (but behaved) preschoolers.

Oh no, I definitely expect to see children there. It is WDW after all. I have no problems with children anywhere, I just prefer not to stay there with my children. Not that they are not well behaved enough to stay there with them, its just not a resort that has ever appealed to us as a family. However, now that we are talking about a trip for just the two of us, I guess it is somewhat appealing. DH just thinks it may be one of the more romantic resorts. Plus there are things we'd like to do such as the couple's spa treatment, Victoria and Albert's and perhaps a fireworks cruise and these are all located at GF, which makes it very convienent. I have stated many times in the past that one day I'd like to stay at every WDW resort and I guess this would be the best way for us to try GF.

Yes, yes, and yes! The GF is the perfect place for an anniversary trip.

My sister and I just stayed there for the first time a few weeks ago and it is beautiful! And there is a romantic elegance that would make your trip even more special.

We dinned at V & A's our first night there and when they seat you they say somthing about how it is going to be an experience you'll never forget - and they are right! It was the best meal either of us have ever had (probably because we've never dinned at an AAA Five Diamond restaurant before! Don't even think we have one here!!!) I can't lie, it was very expensive, but definitely worth every penny. :chef:

We also did a spa treatment and that was great after being in the parks for a few days! I definitely recommend doing a massage or facial while there! :cloud9:

It was definitely nice having all of these options available at the hotel we were staying at because we could go back and forth to the room to change, etc. I think the GF would be absolutely perfect for your anniversary! :bride: :groom:

DH and I celebrated our 20th anniversary at the GF and it could not have been more perfect. We really splurged on ourselves and booked a club level room. We were shocked when they escorted us to our room, and saw that they had upgraded us to a huge honeymoon suite.

We spent most of the time at the resort, listening to the orchestra, getting spa treatments and lounging by the pool. They have lounge chairs for 2 on the beach, where you can have room service bring you some champagne and strawberries. There's also private cabanas by the theme pool which you can rent by the 1/2 day or full day.

For something very special, you can work with room service and plan your own anniversary dinner. There are a few private locations around the resort, where they'll set up a table and you can have dinner. It sounds like it would be outrageously expensive, but honestly, it costs the same as a signature dining experience. They'll even do a small replica of your wedding cake, or you can have a little castle cake served as dessert.

Tammi,

Thank you so much for those suggestions. I think you may have just made up my mind for me! LOL! We're not really going to be doing parks that much. What we are looking for is relaxing, being pampered and having a nice romantic place to stay. I am pretty sure we'll do Epcot because of the food and wine festival, which is something we've always wanted to do. We never travel at that time and our kids wouldn't be very interested in it, so we are also looking forward to that. Who would I contact to arrange some of the things you suggested? I love the champagne and strawberries on the beach idea as well as the castle cake for dessert!

Keep the suggestions coming!
