February 28, 2008:

So even with our reassuring message when we returned the previous night, I was still awoken at the same time, in same manner, as the night before. :bang: Even after another phone call to the desk, I was still listening to the hammering 30 minutes later (I really needed my :fan: from home!), and by this time I was pretty angry. I called again, and the girl tells me that the assistant manager would be at our room in just a few minutes. Huh? Not my idea of fun at 2:30am. My husband meets the manager and some other dude in the hall, who had come with a luggage cart to move us to another room then and there. Not going to happen! Josh was still sleeping through all this (lord only knows how), and although the rest of us were awake, there was no way we were packing everything up and moving at that time of night. They promised the hammering would stop, and finally it did. I was so sick of it all.

In the morning we moved up to the 12th floor, but now we had a bay view (not my choice), although we could now see Mt. Fugi (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2406754140048685994nDImWq), and our room was actually smaller. I was very disappointed, and nothing was ever said to us the remainder of our stay. sigh We’ve emailed Starwood/Sheraton since we’ve been home, and the general manager of the hotel did say for us to contact him if we visit Tokyo again and he’d upgrade our room. Woopie.

So anyway, on to our day. We were admittedly kind of dragging that morning due to our eventful night, but excited that today we finally got to park hop. We’re park hopper-aholics, so we’d been waiting for this. We started the day very leisurely at the gorgeous Hotel MiraCosta (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2920680400048685994jyUTtp) just wandering around the lobby (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2221069370048685994UsCMKB) taking pictures and such. The outside fountain (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2452203690048685994SoPZlJ) wasn’t on this day, which was kinda disappointing since it’s so pretty. We finally made it to DisneySea right after opening, and again the plan was to get Journey to the Center of the Earth fastpasses.

We noticed early on that crowds were heavier than we’d experienced that week, and this was evidenced by my getting smushed and pushed and squished while trying to get the Journey fastpasses. Yikes! :crowd: I guess that’s what we get for taking our time getting in the park .

We spent the next few hours wandering between the Lost River Delta (with another ride on Raging Spirits (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2841495960048685994acCSUd), of course), the Arabian Coast (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2885279880048685994GwubyE) (where we met a furry friend (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2437930680048685994REbPWo) and a really cool Mickey (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2365269100048685994EkdpxN)), Mermaid Lagoon (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2717038260048685994KttVIX) (where sea salt popcorn (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2084860370048685994HgCOYU) RULES!) and Mysterious Island (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2432073850048685994WbuWIP). Finding ourselves back out in Mediterranean Harbor, we decided to take the Transit Steamer Line (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2584753940048685994wjxTDQ) one-way trip to the Lost River Delta. Even though our Journey fastpasses were still a few hours away, we were able to get another fastpass and we decided upon Indy. The boys each got a Mickey or Minnie head popsicle (orange and apple flavored) :bar: and Mr. Kevin got some sea salt ice cream. The grown-ups decided that it tasted like the homemade ice cream we all grew up with. The weather this afternoon was quite nice - in the low 50s and the wind had died down considerably. We were enjoying the little bit of warmth.

We had originally planned on eating at the S.S. Columbia Dining Room for lunch, but when we got there and viewed the menu, we decided it was just too heavy and we weren’t that hungry. We opted instead for the nearby NY Deli (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2520323640048685994abjxeO) and we really enjoyed our sandwiches, salads and beers. It hit the spot with us all! :eat:

Finally time for our Journey (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2046639770048685994DkPQhJ) to the Center of the Earth (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2338264960048685994rmopHW) fastpasses, and having no opposition like the other day from any of the little guys, we had a great time. I sat with Ryan, held his hand and warned him when we reached the creature (or whatever it is???) that we were taking off. Man, I love this ride!

Taking our time, we headed back to the Lost River Delta for our Indy fastpass. It was picture time, and we had it all planned out in honor of our good friends, Mr. Michael and Mr. Bryant. My boys loved all the funny poses Mr. Bryant did on the ride pictures on our trip to Disneyland last summer, and Mr. Michael has his signature way of posing with his arms stretched in the air, so this was totally a tribute to them. Everything went great (and the picture turned out perfect (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2192180300048685994EqHxJb)), until we were ready to pull into the station. Those of you familiar with the Indy ride in California know that when the ride is over, you usually come to stop while waiting to pull into the station to unload. We had stopped, and Josh was sitting right in front of me, and I leaned up to say something to him. Soon after, we took off and I popped my front teeth on the hand bar and it cracked one of them just a bit towards the bottom. Oh joy. :goof: Thank goodness it wasn’t worse, but of course I worried about it all day. :/

Mission accomplished with the Indy pic, it was time to head to Disneyland! We met a few friends (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2901183370048685994wkExdh) on the way out (where was Donald???) and paused at the entrance for a few more (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2148272520048685994FuVGFI) pictures (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2742495180048685994pTVLaF), then Monorail Purple (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2161590760048685994cuBeQX) wisked us away. The boys even got to sit up front again.

They always have a variety of characters at the Disneyland entrance, and this afternoon was no exception (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2138328250048685994ZMhuMl). We even had a rare find, for us anyway – Bernard (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2082596360048685994AVTwAW) and Bianca (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2889599430048685994kVBlRR). We headed back to Westernland :cowboy: first, passing this very appropriate sign (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2145834590048685994zTmgGq), and were thrilled to see the Shooting Gallery open. It had not been the other day, I guess because of the Big Thunder refurb. All the boys had their turn and this is always a favorite activity (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2313917340048685994lOMuxF) for us. Not like my boys are competitive or anything. Ryan was quite upset when he only got 1 target.

We spent the next hour or so on Tom Sawyer’s Island (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2593017470048685994gcHOve):camping:, just letting the boys run and have a good time (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2643505900048685994yLUqbp). They really enjoy this area (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2995564010048685994PqPwal)! The big kids had fun exploring too. It was almost dusk by this point, so we took one of the last rafts back to the mainland, and continued over to Fantasyland. Everyone except James (who walked around (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2415354590048685994PBFYFS) taking more pictures (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2981028100048685994nnNOaP)) decided to go for a spin on the teacups. If Ryan had not wanted to, I wouldn’t have done it. Kevin and Josh like to spin (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2055451070048685994bBWdGu), Ryan and I do not (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2337172610048685994xuZdzj). So we had our partners very easily decided.

At this point, if I recall correctly, we kinda went in a circle around the park without a real clear plan. We went over to Tomorrowland (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2499314830048685994DrutrY) for the Grand Circuit Speedway again, through World Bazaar (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2724813710048685994WazeVs), then on to Adventureland (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2867111210048685994nUYFAj) for a nighttime ride on Jungle Cruise (always fun) and to buy Ryan another strap for his popcorn bucket, since he had managed to somehow break the piece that connects the strap to the bucket the day before. It was 200 yen for a replacement. Then we went back into Fantasyland and went on Haunted Mansion (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2735158640048685994OyGRaz), which is always better at night as well, IMO. :hmghost:

We finished the night at the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2087845860048685994Wezjqp) for a late dinner, a favorite from last year. This is an awesomely themed (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2271205910048685994hNCJbh) buffeteria-style restaurant, and the kids (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2117674650048685994aNxOqP) had been bugging us all day to eat there. If you love Alice in Wonderland :hatter:, eating here is a must. We had a mish mash of things to eat (rice, salad, soup, beef, etc.) As we were sitting there eating, I think it hit us how tired we were, and we decided to call it a night.

I personally was really looking forward to a good, uninterrupted night’s sleep. :sleepin: Today had been a fun, but very, very leisurely day. We weren’t in a hurry for anything. We were back at the hotel in no time via the speedy, efficient Disney transportation.

Up Next: Disneyland, DisneySea and Disneyland – our last full day

I'm so sorry to hear abut your hotel room problems. And then to move you to a smaller room? I do hope you hear something from them quickly.

What a fun day though. The Mickey and the restaurant were amazing. These reports including the food are really neat.

I find it fun to read about the "sea salt ice cream" and then New York style Deli at the same time. (don't know why but I just do).

Thanks again Mel for sharing this with us.:mickey:

Sorry to read about the problem with your hotel room, not to mention breaking a tooth too!
Despite the problems, you and your family still managed to have a great day. Way to go!

I love your reports! I wish they would incorporate some of what Tokyo has to the parks in Florida. I LOVE Bianca and Bernard so that was a treat to see your pictures, and I also chipped a tooth at Disney, although I was knawing on a piece of rock candy at the time ;) Thanks for the great reports and thank you for your contribution to keeping our country safe. God Bless!

Sorry about the disturbed sleep, less than adequate response (sometimes quicker is not better!), and the cracked tooth!

Sounds like quite an eventful day! I can't believe all of the problems you had with the Sheraton- did you ever hear back from Starwood corporate? I should see if I can get a hold of Matt Ouimet (formerly of Disneyland) since he's now I believe the President of the hotel group for Starwood and I'm sure he'd be interested to hear your story and make sure things are made right.

Of course at this point with all the trouble you had I think the manager of the Sheraton there should just put you and your family up in the MiraCosta and pay the difference ;)

And the cracked tooth! Ouch! Those Indy transports can be a bit jerky when they start and stop.

I miss the sea salt ice cream- it is one of those unique Tokyo park foods (and Kingdom Hearts II fans should recognize it as I believe it inspired the game's creator to include it after he visited DisneySea).

As for the other weird foods at the Tokyo parks, I'm not sure if I'm ready to try the Sesame or Honey-Lemon flavored churros anytime soon though. Maple is good though and I'd be happy to have those here.

The Queen of Hearts buffeteria is a great place to eat- but that place seems to always be crowded. But some really good food (especially those cool desserts!) in a fantastic themed environment. At least it's refreshing in Tokyo that the CMs are there right after you pay and ready to escort you to an open table instead of having to search for a place to sit down.

Just don't plan to hop on the teacups right afterwards, because unlike the teacups like at Disneyland (where they were adjusted so they don't really spin all that fast anymore)- there are no restrictions in Tokyo so they can really spin pretty quickly. I had forgotten about that the last time I was on them.

Sounds like another great day, with the exception of your tooth and sleepless night. The pics are awesome, thanks for sharing.:mickey:

I cannot understand what they are thinking allowing construction work to take place during the middle of the night!! That is just unacceptable.

and this was evidenced by my getting smushed and pushed and squished while trying to get the Journey fastpasses. Yikes! Oh my. :scared:

Sounds like you did a lot despite the crowds. Another great report full of details and photos. Thanks so much, Mel.

Thank you for your report and all your pics!! I have been living vicariously through you cracked tooth and all... been there! I only wish there WAS a TDL when I was there last and we have just been dreaming of the day we an go ( we hope in 2 years ). Sorry about your hotel room dilemma but it sure seems your time with Mickey & the boys has made it all worthwhile! The Queen of Hearts restaurant looks like its amazing! Is it true that the attention to details at TDL & DisneySea is beyond comparison? Looks amazing..
