We were at WDW for ESPN The Weekend and took a few photos of the Contemporary's new tower from the monorail. Thought some of you guys would be interested.

Great photos! There wasn't much to see when we were there in November. Have they said, or do I not remember, how many stories high it is going to be?

I wonder why there is a school bus parked at the construction site. You can see it in the second picture.

I saw that and was wondering the same thing.

I would think that those would be for a walkway to the main building of the Contemporary for use of the monorail. I can't see them making a monorail spur just for the tower.

Buses are probably used to bring in construction workers from a centralized parking area.

Yeah, those beams are for the 5th floor walkway between the two towers. As far as the number of floors, in the concept art the new tower looks to be about a floor or two taller than the first one.

I always wanted to stay here, but everytime I pass thru onthe monorail, the building looks stale looking. It looks like it needs some fixing up from the outside like pressure wash the roofs and walls and add some paint or something. It just makes me not want to stay there.

They have added 3 or 4 floors since December 23rd when I was there.

So why can Disney build more rooms there but not finish the 2nd phase of POP the Legendary Years? Is there just more money in adding to the CR?

In that this new construction is for DVC rooms, the answer to your second question would be...Yes, definitely!

If they have to make offers like upgrade park tickets and/or free dining to fill rooms, there is no reason to resume construction of value resorts, or any 'regular' resorts for that matter.

DVC is a longterm committment by the customer to spend...on average.....about 100K over 40+ years into the disney system (at today's purchase price)

Someday POP will be completed....probably as a suite location similar to what they did at Music......

but the economics aren't nearly as good for a value as they are for DVC site.....

I can also see them outsourcing the values and maybe the moderates to free up labor for gated attractions.....it might be required to do so to ever expand on a significant scale....

apples and oranges.....really
