I just got off the phone with my SIL who is in Las Vegas for the weekend. She just told me that she bought a timeshare and they told her that Disney was going to build a Disneyland there. Starting off with a water park and going from there. I told her that I have not heard that there was anything on Intercot about this. She told me they assured her that it was going to start it next year. Has anyone been told about this or heard this? I told her that she should not have bought if it was for that reason. I hope that this people are right because I would be very upset if they were using that as a saleing devise.

I hope that the one leg doesn't get too much longer than the other.

It seems amazing that the timeshare company would know before everyone else. I would be very, very skeptical. I don't see Disney letting the competition know about their plans in Vegas, when they could have their own timeshares there. You never know, but it would be a major shift from the way Disney operates. The tough part is that if Disney doesn't go to Vegas, the timeshare will still have your SIL's signature.

I can't imagine them doing this simply geographically...Disneyland is less than 6 hours from Las Vegas. If they were ever going to build a new park in America, which I doubt they will, it only makes sense to build it somewhere in the central part of the US, equal distances away from DL and WDW.

(sorry have to use the pun, but this IS Vegas!)

What they were and are talking about is the Las Vegas WET project that is being developed by a bunch of former Disney and Universal vets. They have over 200 acres tied up and will have a waterpark, snow dome, theme park (not Disney), plus the obligatory hotels and casinos. Because of its size and layout, you won't get the feeling that the casinos are a part of the attractions and vice versa.

I suspect you're absolutely right, stevend. And, WELCOME TO INTERCOT ! :welcome:

I had heard the same thing a while ago, and the key word was FORMER Disney and Universal employees.

Lending further doubt that it would be Disney building it is the fact that Disney tries hard (but doesn't always succeed) in keeping their overall image "squeaky clean". (My turn for a pun!) I just can't imagine them building anything in what is widely referred to as "Sin City", and I definitely can't see them getting involved in casinos and such.

If this rumor happened in Vegas, let's leave it in Vegas.

If anyone's interested in the nature of this project, you can find more info on their website. (http://www.lasvegaswet.com/index.php) Please note the credentials of the folks who are developing this project.

I know that Disney would not put a park here only cause Disneyland is down the road. But it makes me mad that people will omit certain words to sell something. Know I now why people hate people who sell. Which is bad cause there are some people out there that will tell the truth.

Thank you for the info. I had to vent.:mad:

While I might could see a DVC or Adventures by Disney setting up something in Las Vegas, I really can't see a full-fledged "theme park" being built by Disney.

While Vegas has made big strides in becoming more family oriented by offering more for the family, I still think it's regarded as a mostly adult vacation spot. I think Disney would have a hard time selling their "product" in Vegas. Not that they couldn't, but it's just a different atmosphere, and not one that would seem to fit well with their business model.

One of Disney Cruise Line's selling points, which they are quick to point out, is their deliberate lack of casinos onboard the ship. It would seem odd that between that, and all of hte other good points made in this thread, that they would build anything in Las Vegas.

Sadly, I think your SIL was lied to.

Like somebody already said, it has to be for the Las Vegas WET project. Its going to be HUGE! However, they have said the theme park will be 60 acres and will be from a "while known name" however no company has been released yet. Since it is being made by former disney staff (including former ride designers that made some of your fav. rides) I can only hope that disney is going to put there name on the theme park part only and keep it small. May be a good place for some rides that they have created but decided not to build because it just didn't "fit" into the park theme or whatever. Hopefully we will know soon enough and hopefully your SIL didn't much money into this.

EDIT: www.lasvegaswet.com is the website. If you go to the project tab, you will see that they say:

Theme Park
-60 acre Internationally Recognized Theme Park Brand.

No word on the company yet.

But if they are FORMER disney staffers then why would Disney put their name on it? Wonder who these former staffers work for now - maybe some internet sleuthing can crack it. :D My mind goes to Six Flags - but who knows! It will be a great project for sure!

Looking at that web site, I didn't see anywhere that Disney had actually put their name on it. A lot of the people involved had Disney experience on their resume, but nothing current.

It's not exactly an internationally known Theme Park name yet, but how about the second Hard Rock Park?

My bet would be that this is either a Universal type park or Six Flags. Knotts and Disney have that family value reputation to uphold.

A Disney casino would rock the body that rocks the party. Can't hurt to dream.

Honestly though, MGM Grand built a theme park a decade ago that was so unpopular they shut it down a few years ago and will never speak of it again.

I'd love to see a Disney-style theme park in Vegas since I love that sort of thing but I don't imagine it being too succesful.

Now...Disney Imagineers putting together an awesome resort/casino/waterpark complex could be awesome. I don't think it will ever happen but it's certainly an interesting thing to think about.

I'd have to change my user name from disneyORvegas! I could do Disney and Vegas at the same time, oh my God I'm going to pass out! :cloud9: :funny:
