AAA discount question

When you book a room only with a AAA discount, do you have to provide the card number at the time of booking?

We are going in May 2009, and I want to book now, but don't have AAA yet, but will buy a membership in June of this year. I want to know if I can secure a room only reservation with AAA discount without actually being a member yet.

I recently booked a room only with AAA discount. The CM asked me for the AAA number. I thought I did not have the card with me. She told me I could give them the card at check in. However, I found the card in my wallet and gave her the number.
