DH and I are planning our first anniversary trip from April 29th to May 6. We're splitting our stay between Pop Century (4 nights) and POR for the last 3 nights.

We're trying to decide which building(s) to request. What's most important to us is being close to a bus stop. Secondly, the main building, and finally, the pool. We love spending time at the pool but it's not THAT big of a deal to have to walk a little ways. After all, we're very used to the long walks at Pop.

I've looked at pictures of both and like and dislike things about both types of buildings. Is one type of room bigger than another? What are the differences in them?

I'm sure someone out there can be of some help! Thanks !:) :)

Greetings from a fellow Michgander

This May will be out second trip to POR Alligator Bayou. Last time we were in bldg 24. There was a pool directly behind our bldg and the walk to the bus stop was moderate. The walk to old man island and the main bldg was quite a hike. But it was quiet, peaceful and the scenery was lovely.

I would suggest the bayous, as they are closer to the main buildings and food court.

AB bldg. 34 is next to the west depot, but a long walk to the main bldg.
Check out the map on info central.
Enjoy!

You see, I'm going to have to disagree with the AB comments.

My last visit to dear 'ol Riverside we stayed in a mansion that was just on the other side of the river form the Lobby and bus stop and a quick walk to everything else. We just went downstairs, walked across the bridge and there we were. I couldn't imagine anywhere being closer than that!

Cheers!

I can't believe all these folks are suggesting the Bayou. They sound like the travel agent from my honeymoon who "Tricked" us into requesting a Bayou room. I felt like I was in a run down apartment complex on the south side of Austin. I remember the anger I had when I saw all the beautiful mansions and the ugly building we got stuck in. Pick a mansion. Otherwise, you'll feel like your at the Lady Luck Indian Casino in Mobile. (If you're wondering, that's not good)

my family has stayed at POR many times and always in Alligator Bayou... it's amazing but we are also country people (yeah for the backwoods of Michigan!!!) i love AB and we normally stayed in bldg 14. it is extremely close to everything! the last time we stayed there we were one of the closest rooms to the food Court and of course there are bus stops right by the food court and there was a quiet pool just around the other side of bldg 14. it was amazing best location we had ever been in! so i would suggest AB because it's close, though as to themeing and such i cannot tell you if Mansions is better or not. they are beautiful... but if you want close AB is the way to go, but request a close bldg too. and just a hint... if you are at Pop first, go at like 7 in the morning to check in you can't get your room yet obviously but you have a chance of beating other people to get a great room... i think you can even go earlier, i don't know how early the check in is open i would think 24hr. but the earlier the better chance of getting the best room! :) my family did that once at CB got a better room that way.

I'm a mansions guy. Last time we stayed there we stayed in the mansions in Magnolia Terrace. We were right across from the main pool, main lobby, Boatright's etc. It couldn't of been more convenient.

I'm a city kid and love the understated elegance of the Mansion's. Alligator Bayou is just way to rustic for me.

Come on Gator, you've obviously had a bad experience, however I don't think it could have been that bad !! We've stayed in the AB section for years and love it, as do thousands of others...and we're not all "hill billies", actually I am, and very proud of it !!! yeee haw:thedolls:

Wow Stacey, it seems like only yesterday that you were writing to us about your Disneymoon! I've only stayed in the AB section but we were in building 27 and found it to be very convenient. The decor didn't excite me (I had wanted the mansions and didn't get them) but the landscaping around the building was beautiful.

We love the AB also. The mansions are beautiful but are out in the hot sun with rectangular formal looking pools. AB has beautiful meandering paths in the shade and free form quiet pools with lush foilage.
The rooms (and the food court) have all been refurbished since Gator was there in 2002 also.

I like both sections but found the AB building 14 & 18 much closer to the main building then any of the mansions we stayed in.
