I am really leaning towards trying CS next January but I have a couple of reservations about it. It looks really big and spread out, although I know the Cabanas 9 is a good section to be in. Is it really family friendly? The theme doesn't look like it would be intriguing to kids but the pool and playground look great. It's sort of confusing. Has anyone rented the boats or anything while they were there, that does look like fun. The other place we were consideringis POFQ but that isn't really kid friendly either. The only extra it seems to have is the boat to DTD but we don't really go there much so it's not such a perk. Somebody please tell me what you think. Also, the pepper market looks great but is the extra 10% worth it for the option of different food?

I really think that "kid friendly" is in the eye of the beholder. My DD loved Coronado Springs and Caribbean Beach, including the pools and at CS, Pepper Market. But our "kid friendly" stuff was really at the water parks and the parks themselves. We didn't spend that much time at the resort to tire of what was there.

If you stay at the resort and feel that this should be half of your fun, you might be disappointed. While they're just fine for DD and friends, DD looked to the resort as a place to eat and sleep (and watch old Disney toons), not really that much to play. She's 9 now and looking forward to camping at Fort Wilderness. (But I'll bet she wants to spend more time at the parks than at the campground, even with all it provides.)

I think Coronado Springs is very kid friendly.

The food court is great -- especially for families with kids who each like something different. You can get just about anything from pasta to pizza, tacos to hamburgers, chicken to chinese. Plus salads, sandwiches, cookies, and pastries.

As for things to do in the Cabanas section there is a beach and hammocks that kids like to play in. The Dig Site has a great pool, playground, and other kid-oriented activities. There are also bikes, boats, and video games.

I am personally partial to CS, but POFQ is also kid friendly, with a great pool/playground area. The boat is a nice bonus -- even if you don't want to go to DTD its nice just to ride.

Either way you cannot go wrong!

ENJOY!

My DS6 loved the pool area. We didn't even need to go to a waterpark. Though they are a lot of fun. The waterslide at CS's pool was enough for him. He must have gone down it a hundred times (ok, I'm exaggerating, but not bymuch.) The play area was also fun, but he preferred to be in the pool.

We stayed at CS a couple of years ago with our 3 boys, and they absolutely LOVED the pool area. The slide is really fast, and the playground and arcade is right there too. We also enjoyed it because there was a nice bar area located next to the pool that has a nice hot/cold snack menu.

My youngest at the time was 2 and he loved the kiddie area with squirting fountains. We had a quiet pool outside our room, and the older boys would take a quick swim in the AM and we could keep an eye on them.

We also enjoyed the Peppermarket because there is such a variety of food choices and we weren't justing eating pizza or chicken all the time.

It has been 7 years since I was at CSR. When I was there, I thought about how nice it was for families. Some of the perks are the crowds are conventioners. This means less people doing the family type things. The pool is great, the playground great, the lake for feeding the ducks and fish, rental boats, beach with hammocks. The only mod I can compare it to is Dixie Landings (now POR). They are just as nice as each other.

Yes, the lifeguards usually have things going on during the day at the main pool with the kids.

I've seen them do some treasure hunts in the sand area by the playground too. They would bury items for the kids to search for. They also did water games with the kids. The lifeguards involved them in daily games & craft projects.
Things that cost money at the surrey bikes, water mice, fishing and caricature drawings.

Just be aware that if there is a convention and they decide to have a "pool party" the main pool and hot tub might be off limits to other guests while their Party is going on.
I would ask guest services if the pool is going to be reserved while you are there, then plan accordingly.
This happened to us once when our tired old bodies needed the hot tub after doing the parks for 3 days. :medic:

I have never stayed there, but my cousins still rave about the trip they took there about 8 years ago.

We stayed there and DS loved it. I think he liked this pool the best, it's huge and it never seemed crowded. Also DS is not a mac&cheese, chicken finger kid, so the Pepper Market with all it's choices worked out really well for us.

We stayed in Casitas section, building 3 when we were there. What was nice about this was we could walk from our room to the main building under cover. Really nice during those summer thunderstorms.

There is also the IOA convention 8/22-8/28. It shouldn't be a really large group though. I'll be there because of that (I'll be at the parks with the kiddos while my DH has to work)!!

We LOVE the CS!!! Very family friendly. The resort is spread out but they have this great golf cart type shuttle that constantly circles the resort picking up and dropping off guests along the way. The best part of the resort is that it is a "convention resort", IMHO. Most of the time the guests are too busy to crowd the pool and busses leaving plenty of room for the families staying there!!!
